Heavily pregnant heatwave tips!

Hi lovely ladies!

Next week is set to be a scorcher down south and at 25 weeks, I'm already feeling hot and bothered and it's barely got above 20c this week!

Does anyone have any tips on how to keep my sanity next week? I work both inside and out and I'd like to keep my sweat patches to a minimum 😁

Spray bottle with water + portable fan.
Standing fan for when you're not moving around
Lots of ice in drinks (lots of water generally)
Dresses
Hat if you're outside
Cool water in a basin/bucket for your feet
Don't plan on moving so much

Windows open overnight, shut tight and curtains closed in the day!!!

Frozen grapes. I was heavily pregnant during the heatwave last July and used to snack on frozen grapes. For some reason it really helped compared to the other things I tried.

I also sat with my feet in a washing up bowl full of water (luckily I was wfh!)

Open your loft hatch. Heat raises, so apparently this is good to let the heat escape.

At around 28wk we hit a heatwave last year and I had this battery operated fan that went round my neck. An awful pink plastic piece of rubbish that worked so bloody well

I don’t know if it’s really that bad to be honest. 25 weeks should be pretty manageable. Sure bring a fan and drink plenty of water, things you’d do to stay cool despite being pregnant!

Apparently, putting your pillow/t shirt in the freezer 😂

That is a myth, unless your loft has ventilation for air to move out the top it will just let hot air in the loft heat up the rooms below. Better to insulate the loft hatch and keep it closed.

I was 33w in the heatwave during the first lockdown!

  • get a bucket for cold water for your feet / paddling pool.
  • stay in the shade
  • loose floaty clothes
  • evian water spray for your face
  • find a cold surface to lie on and lie down in the day (I laid down on our wooden floor much to DH amusement)!
  • close windows during the day (esp on the sunniest side of your abode), open at night to let any hot air escape
  • wet foods, water melon, frozen water melon, pineapple etc etc
  • ice cream
  • frozen yogurt
  • eat frozen peas directly from the freezer
  • drink lots

Trial subscription to a gym with a pool, if you don't have one. Live in it.

Not sure how that became bullet points 😆 sorry about that

Cool showers and errr... 'air drying'.

I recently bought a USB fan on Amazon which has a little stand. If I stand it on the sideboard next to the sofa, it's at the perfect height for face and neck. Lovely 😄

Home bargains do a cooling spray mist in a can for about £1! I was 37 weeks during the hottest summer on record in 2019 and it was a god send.
Get yourself a little paddling pool for sitting with your feet in and my midwife told me ice on your pulse points to cool down really quickly when your boiling.

I feel for all the pregnant ladies in this heat, I was ready to strip off and go lie in the freezer aisle in Asda

I was pregnant during the heatwave of 2018 (DS2 was born at the beginning of August )and it was hell. DH made me my own aircon unit (a box full of ice with a tube and a fan) but mostly I sat around in my pants eating ice cream. DH is always hot and he has one of those neck fans and absolutely loves it so you could get one from Amazon fairly cheaply.

Bucket of iced water placed in front of a fan, with an extra bucket for feet to dip every now and then. Closed blinds/curtains with open windows.... unless the wind is warm, in which case keep those windows closed too.
Also, forget style!!!! Stretchy comfy shorts like those made similar to leggings with a skirt, dress, or long loose top. Shorts stop the chaffing/sweatiness between thighs and loose tops and dresses prevent you from feeling suffocated!

God I had mine at the end of that summer and spent most of it not going in our SW-facing garden after 12pm 🥵
Agree with the shower/air-drying, cold water run over your wrists can help too
