Are there any anti sickness drugs that don't wipe you out? (Morning sickness related)

In my first pregnancy I was prescribed cyclizine for morning sickness, and although it stopped me vomitting, it really wiped me out- felt like I had flu.
I now have a toddler to contend with, but my morning sickness is ramping up. Has anyone tried any other anti sickness medication that doesn't have the zonking effect? Tia

Neither metaclopramide nor ondensatron wiped me out, but both have other side effects so I don't know how easy it is to get them prescribed by a GP.

In my first pregnancy I took promethazine in the afternoon to avoid the drowsiness. It mostly worked. Planning to do the same this time around

Same here - promethazine - it is a sedating medication but I took half a tablet at night and that seemed like the right balance.

Thanks that's helpful to know. Do they have enough effect if you just take at night?

I've been taking ondansetron since 10 weeks and it's amazing. I'm now 38 weeks

Metaclopramide I had from a GP but didn’t do much for me. Ondesatron (not sure if I have spelt that right!) I had to get from a consultant due to the heart risk.

How long have you tried with cyclizine? The tiredness was extreme for me initially but wore off until I didn’t feel tired at all a couple of weeks in.

hellosunshineagainx · 06/07/2022 00:37

I had metoclopramide after I found cyclizine didn't work well for me and didn't wipe me out.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have a gp appointment tomorrow so it's good to know all these names.

Cyclizine didn't do much to help me last time, but I only tried for a week as the drowsiness was so bad, I felt knocked out. Just know I can't sleep the whole time this time with my little boy- it's easier to vomit every half hour and be semi-functioning (my life...)

This is so grim!

I had phenergan. Did a good job with the sickness and because I took it at night it gave me a lovely 9-10 hour sleep. Had to stop taking it around week 25 and then the pregnancy insomnia set in Hmm

Borgonzola · 07/07/2022 11:19

Sorry, should qualify that phenergan is also known as promethazine, per previous posters, and taking it at about 8pm helps!

justabigdisco · 08/07/2022 21:24

Yes it seemed to last long enough. Didn’t get rid of sickness completely but enough to get by.

Thetractorjustmoved · 12/07/2022 11:20

Thanks for all the advice, an update-- Ive been prescribed promethazine and took the first last night. Feel drowsy and just as sick! Do they take a while to kick in? Does the day time drowsiness wear off at all? I've been told to only take before bed, but I'm still knackered today. Thanks fellow sickers!

Try a half and take it at teatime

I took Cariban tablets prescribed in the maternity unit when I have severe nausea and sickness in my 2nd pregnancy. They were very good I have to say. I'm 6 weeks pregnant now and already feel I am going to be needing these again. 🙈
