Could you tell your baby was transverse?

I'm convinced DC3 is transverse. All movement I feel is over the sides of my stomach towards my hips 😬

I've had straightforward vaginal deliveries for 1 and 2 so obviously hoping for the same here. I'm just shy of 32 weeks to obviously time to turn but has anyone else had the same and did baby turn cephalic in time to avoid a c section?

When I knew what I was looking for, yes. I could clearly feel a head on one side of my tummy, and kicks on the other.

TeddyTonks · 05/07/2022 13:36

Did they turn for you in time for the birth @Honaloulou ?

Oh yes I knew, punches and kicks either side and no pain in my back, thankfully she turned a week or so before delivery. MVs told me be on my hands and knees watching TV etc. Seemed to have done the gravity trick.

My 3rd baby was transverse all the way through pregnancy. I was admitted into hospital at 37 weeks incase I went into labour and the cord delivered first (history of fast labour's and pre 40 week deliveries). They tried unsuccessfully to turn him so I was booked in for a c-section at 40w. He turned himself at 39+5 (it was fairly painful!!) and his head engaged so the c-sec was cancelled and I was discharged from hospital. I delivered naturally at 41+5. He was born weighing a massive 10lb11oz so no wonder it was so painful for him to turn around!!!!

Yes I could, I could feel his head under my ribs.

Yes with my 2nd, less so with my 1st.

With my first I had a growth scan at 36 weeks and discovered baby was transverse. so they said come for another scan at 36+6 and if he's still transverse then I'd be admitted. luckily he was cephalic and I went home. induced for reduced movements at 40+4, ended with awful emcs, baby actually turned from head down to breech during the c section. I now suspect he was unstable lie but didn't know at the time.

With my second, now 12 days old, I was 95% sure he was unstable lie but triage not interested unless a midwife felt he was not cephalic and he always was at midwife appointments until 39+2 when she agreed with me that he was oblique. had a presentation scan 3 hrs later and he was cephalic! so went home but booked an elective section for two days later at 39+4 - on the morning of the section he was felt to be transverse (as i thought), and it was a difficult delivery as he was "wedged" very high up, surgeon used forceps to get him out bum first and he had significant bruising on his bum, hips and elbow. we didn't get photos of his delivery or the drapes lowered due to the way he was delivered. but we are both OK now and I am so pleased we went for the elective as I felt like a ticking time bomb at 39+ weeks, with very unstable lie baby and 40 minutes from hospital!

DD was and thankfully turned a few days before labour. I could feel her kicks were different to her older sister and I wasn't sure why. I was told to be on my hands and knees while watching tv and reading etc and it might've helped

Blabla81 · 05/07/2022 14:35

Yes my second was transverse and breech for most of the pregnancy. She kept moving positions and was one of the other at each midwife appointment (which always confirmed what I knew). Breech by 37 weeks and flipped all the way round to head down by 38/39 weeks - was sitting in Dunelm cafe when she turned and I nearly vomited.

Samanabanana · 05/07/2022 14:43

Yes! I was so uncomfy and could feel head and butt in the wrong place. He was transverse from around 29 weeks and did not turn. Had an elcs and the recovery was absolutely fine!

Juno231 · 05/07/2022 15:01

Yes mine was for a long time but turned around 32 weeks. They have plenty of time to turn before birth and tbh even if it was head down for you today it still could flip to transverse the very following day as they still have the space for it.

Basically, try not to worry!

Overfullwardrobe · 05/07/2022 15:14

Each of my 3 DC were transverse/oblique from about 25 weeks. They managed to do a ECV on DC2 and he was a natural birth, but the other two refused to budge when they tried to turn them and were both c- sections.

Cakecakecheese · 05/07/2022 15:39

I only knew he was transverse because the sonographer told me! Baby changed to head down at around 32 weeks so hopefully yours will too. Make sure you maintain good posture, avoiding slouching chairs and it you have a birthing ball do some exercises on that.

TeddyTonks · 05/07/2022 17:18

Thanks for all the comments! I've got my birthing ball out and trying to maintain good posture as much as possible 🤞 he turns round 😬

DD stayed transverse, and I had a planned section at 39 weeks (I didn't need to stay in like some people do, possibly because we're only 15 mins from the hospital).

I loved my c section - it was totally calm and I felt really well looked after. I'd deff take that option again.

whatwhhat · 05/07/2022 22:03

I was certain my third was transverse. I'm sure I could feel his head in my ribs and him kicking my cervix and I just had a gut feeling. On my own accord I spent as much time as I could on all fours.

It was the first thing I said at my next midwife appointment (I think I was 34 weeks). It turns out the head I could feel was his bum 🙄 and I can only assume he was punching my cervix rather than kicking it. He was born naturally and healthy on his due date.

Mention it at your next appointment.

Latenightreader · 05/07/2022 22:06

Yes, she was transverse all the way until the last scan at 38 weeks when she was head down. I could feel her head on the right under my ribs and her feet on my left kicking away. I did a lot of hip rotations in the month before she arrived...

TinyTickler · 05/07/2022 22:07

Yeah I knew with mine. He finally turned at 37 weeks after a LOT of bouncing on the birth hall
