Hello all,

For the past week or so I've had little or no energy and all I want to do is sleep all of the time. I mean, I wake up in the morning and it's all I can do to have a shower and change my clothes before I head off to the land of nod again. Then I tend to wake up in time for lunch and a couple of hours later I'm out for the count again.

Anybody else experiencing the same or know if this is normal?

Thanks!

I'm 35 weeks as well, and have certainly noticed feeling more tired in the evenings now (still working) but I haven't experienced the type of tiredness you're describing. Could it have something to do with iron levels, maybe? I think (though don't quote me on this!) that if your iron levels are low, you're likely to feel really, really, tired. Have you had them checked recently?

frootloop · 16/01/2008 15:34

im putting my money on low iron levels.

im 37 weeks and i have been feeling the exact same and midwife has just told me that my iron levels are too low for me to have a safe home birth

ConnorTraceptive · 16/01/2008 15:36

I would get your iron checked, I'm very tired at 34 weeks too, but you do sound extraordinarily tired.

yep get yor iron levels checked

i am 34wks and tired, have had a bug too, my iron level is 10 point something, so i am going to start taking floradix to make sure it stays at an ok level, i am booked for a home birth and i dont think they are allowed to drop below 9 or 10?

frootloop have you been taking supplements, you can still take some and then get your blood tested again nr due date and if they have gone up then you may be ok.

my friend went into labour and the midwife said hers had been too low to have a home birth but she got a midwife out who took blood and had it sent to be tested whilst she was in labour, it was her first so she was in latent labour for a few days, anyway it came back as just ok and she had a home birth

frootloop · 16/01/2008 15:54

ive been taking pregnacare but my iron has gone from 127 down to 98 in 6 weeks. have had problems with anemia for years but had no idea it could be dangerous in labour.

the midwife took another blood test today and hopes to get back to me soon about a home birth but as its my first babby i think i might play it safe and go into the home from home suite.

Sanwi · 16/01/2008 16:20

yup - get iron checked. i was unbelievably tired and thought it was just late pregnancy

i took floradix for the last 8 weeks and it's the only thing that gave me enough energy to keep getting up every day and much easier on the old squashed stomach than iron tablets...

3madboys · 16/01/2008 16:48

yes i am starting to take the liquid floradix stuff and then going to have my blood retested in a fortnight, hoping that will do the trick, i shall just make sure to eat lots of apricots etc so i dont get constipated

low iron levels can be low in labour because you may bleed more, at least that is the theory, i am sure if you ask you will get more info from other more informed mumsnetter

good luck frootloop xxxxxxx

Agree with everyone here, I had low iron and felt v tired too - not so bad now I've taken the supplements.
I found the doc's dose too much (you ladies will know what I mean!) so used Spatone for a bit, now I just take one Ferrous Fumarate instead of three as Spatone too costly and cant get it on prescription.
