Hello,

I wonder if anyone can help.

I am currently On a weight loss journey, I am 1.3 stone down but I still weigh 21.12 stone.

I have just found out I am pregnant, I think, very faint line on the test. I would guess around 3-4 weeks .

Has anyone this weight had a baby and not had major complications and more to the point still been able to lose weight while pregnant?

I’m not talking extreme dieting but just eating healthy and excersize? I am fit for my size I can walk 10-15 k on days out at weekends, and swim a lot both Cold water and pool. I also deal with horses and do stables and walk my dog etc

i would have thought if I continue as I am eating well with all needed nutrients for baby then I’d still be in a calorie deficit ?

Any advise welcome 🙏

Also please tell me if you can see a very faint line and I’m not being paranoid

I don't know loads about obesity and pregnancy risks but I know that Slimming World is approved as a diet for use during pregnancy (others probably are too). I think they add in a few extras to make sure you get the calcium and nutrients you & the baby need but you absolutely can safely lose weight when pregnant.

Aww congratulations! I was bigger in my last 2 pregnancies. Have lost weight now.

Be prepared for your weight to be mentioned alot. Don't take it to heart.

Especially at scans, they found it difficult to scan because of fat layers.

You may have a few extra appointments or be put under consultant care rather than midwife.

Try not to fall into the trap of eating whatever you want because you're PG! It's tempting but you want to try and gain as little as possible.

Congratulations!Smile as far as pregnancy goes, you'll be recommended to have additional growth scans at 28 and 36 weeks, take 5mg folic acid rather than the standard dose, and if it's your first pregnancy you'll be recommended aspirin. In my trust you would also be referred to see an anaesthetist at some point in the pregnancy. A delivery suite birth would also be advised. For now my advice would be 3 healthy meals a day and healthy snacks if you need them, but pregnancy is more a time for maintaining and not gaining too much, rather than losing weight. Hopefully your midwife will be supportive and can answer any questions you haveSmile

I'm 17 stone and 27 weeks pregnant. I was really worried about health and it being brought up all the time but it's been totally fine. No issues with scans, I had to get a glucose test for gestational diabetes and will have a scan at 36 weeks, no one else has even mentioned my weight.

I brought it up at a midwife appointment as I assumed my weight ruled out home birth but she said as long as I'm healthy there's no problem.

From what I understand, the weight itself isn't an issue, the issue is you can be at increased risk for other things eg. Gestational diabetes. But all my tests came back totally fine, so my midwife said as far as she's concerned I have a normal pregnancy. I haven't put on any weight (I've lost 3 kgs, last few weeks put 1 of those back on) because I've been eating healthily since getting pregnant but not super strictly, just making some better choices.

Depends on who is providing you healthcare but everyone I've spoken to has been great, I started off feeling so guilty about my weight but feel fine about it now. Congrats and good luck!

Congratulations! The majority of larger women will still have beautiful healthy babies. As others have said they will probably monitor you a bit more closely and you will be recommended to take high dose folic acid and probably aspirin as well.
In terms of weight loss, women don’t actually need any extra calories until the third trimester so carrying on eating your normal diet probably won’t result in any weight loss just yet. You might find that your maternity service can offer some suggestions if you would like to safely loose weight in pregnancy.
Wishing you a happy healthy pregnancy 🥰

I would carry on loosing the weight, just eat a normal amount to maintain a healthy size and not to loose, it will be healthier for the delivery if you could carry on with your health journey

Congratulations

During lockdown I had lost weight and then I realized I just put loads of weight on. So I was going to start doing some workout. But for awhile had been feeling unwell so obviously I was pregnant didn't know.
I already feel like big and only 6 weeks.

I think you can still just eat healthy and some sort of excercise but take it easy. As long as baby healthy too.

Thank you all so much. I am absolutely overwhelmed at all the responses in such a short space of time.
i am prepared for people to mention my weight and of course all this will be discussed when I see my GP or midwife. Literally found out today so I’m panicking a lot ! Thank you
