How long would you wait with reduced movements? 38 weeks pregnant

What would you class as reduced movements?

I'm 38 weeks pregnant. I've felt less movements today. Usually there's a lot more kicks and moving about.

Today there were 2 hours where I didn't feel any movement. I had a cold drink, a hot drink, food and chocolate. And then felt some movement.

Then it's been an hour again, and I've just felt a bit of movement after a big drink.

I don't even know if this would be classed as reduced movement as there is still something. It's just less frequent..

Any advice?

Hi, i had similar experience with my boy 5
(5years ago) however i was like 8 days over. I rang the maternity unit and they asked me to come in to monitor and next day he arrived all safe and healthy. I would ring your maternity unit and see what they say?

Saltedcaramelprofiterole · 01/07/2022 16:17

Ring and ask asap. Anything different from normal should be checked.

Joyfultoes · 01/07/2022 16:17

dont fuck about, go in immediately

TeddyTonks · 01/07/2022 16:17

Definitely go in and get checked. The fact you're concerned enough to post here means you should go in.

Purplenightstar · 01/07/2022 16:18

Thats reduced movement, definitely call and go
in. They won’t mind seeing you!

Goodskin46 · 01/07/2022 16:20

I had this with Dd was in and out getting checked out. She arrived safely 12 days late. I think it might meam things will start soon.

OurChristmasMiracle · 01/07/2022 16:23

Go in now. Reduced movements is just that- baby isn’t moving as much as useful so go get baby checked. Always better to be on the safe side!

wannabeamummysobad · 01/07/2022 16:28

With care ... I wouldn't have wasted time writing this question. Go to triage.
Note however, because you are full term if you've had a few bouts of reduced movements they may look to induce you today. Good luck OP

wannabeamummysobad · 01/07/2022 16:29

Don't use external stimulation to get baby to move! It doesn't count. Any change in movements get seen.

ChickenRoseNugget · 01/07/2022 16:30

Currently 37 weeks and sat in hospital with reduced movements waiting to be seen. Better to be safe than sorry, go and get checked. You're not wasting anyones time!

Sillystripytail · 01/07/2022 16:31

Don't wait, call now! They don't mind, you're not wasting their time and it harms no one to have a check over.

Isonthecase · 01/07/2022 16:31

If you're worried get it checked out. I know it feels a bit silly and like you're being overdramatic but any midwife worth their salt would be happy to check because of the occasional times raising concerns early saves lives.

Coffeaddict · 01/07/2022 16:32

As others have said contact triage

Hopefully nothing but the way 1 midwife explained it to me is we would rather see 100 women for reduced movements when nothing is wrong rather than miss that 1 time there is an issue.
You won't be bothering them they will want to see you.

Dic · 01/07/2022 16:34

I'd go in now and get checked. No point messing about at this stage.

BertieBotts · 01/07/2022 16:52

Don't wait, just go in. If you have to ask then get it checked. 99/100 there will be nothing wrong, so try not to worry/panic, but the one time there is something wrong, speed matters. You gain nothing from waiting.

Your baby is 38 weeks so will be perfectly safe to come out if there is any question. Don't wait.

Thank you for your replies.

I've rang triage and there was no answer. It was engaged and then no answer again.

I've rang the Antenatal Assessment Unit as I'm currently having regular blood tests with them for obstetric cholestasis, but they've said they'll call me back as there isn't a midwife available at the moment.

Since posting the original post - within the last 20 mins, there has been much more movement. And I can feel her kicks as well. So I do feel more reassured by that. But I will still speak to the hospital. If I don't hear back from them soon, I'll call them again.

You're doing the right thing. You need to get it check out.

Grumpysister · 01/07/2022 17:07

Well done - you must never feel bad getting yourself checked out. I had OC in my last two pregnancies- hope the itching isn’t too bad! They induced me early because of it so be prepared that might happen.

Annonnimoouse42 · 01/07/2022 17:54

definitely get advice. saying that, I had no movement for hours and went in, and the Dr really poked him hard with the ultrasound, then diagnosed lazy baby

NoSquirrels · 01/07/2022 18:04

I had similar in the 36 hours before labour with my first DC. Born earlier than 38 weeks!

Always best to be checked out, never feel like you’re making a fuss over nothing at this stage. Honestly, they’d rather see you than not, even if it doesn’t feel that way sometimes.

Ardmano · 01/07/2022 18:09

With choleostasis as well I would definitely get checked. If they're understaffed and not able to answer the phone just keep calling, don't be discouraged.

WheneverWherever111 · 01/07/2022 22:32

Thank you for all your replies.

I rang my partner and we went to the hospital soon after my last post on here.

We've just got home from the hospital. Everything is fine. They did all checks and all is ok so I'm really glad and relieved.

Thank you all for your responses x
