How do I get rid of this taste in my mouth?!

Hiya - 7 weeks ish with a horrible taste/feeling in my mouth (only way I can describe it is like I have eaten 10 bags of sweets and my mouth feels furry and tastes horrible) it's making the nausea soooo much worse. Can't get rid of it. Feels horrible after drinking, eating, mints, even brushing teeth doesn't seem to help.

Anyone had this and found a magic cure??

I assume as you are only 7 weeks you haven’t had any bloods done yet? I’d see if you can get your bloods done soon and if they will do a random glucose test as part of the sample. I had that taste with gestational diabetes. Mine was only in the morning as I was getting up but I struggled to control my blood sugars overnight. I could pretty much tell when my blood sugars would be over when I had that taste in my mouth.

Do you drink enough? You need to drink about 4 pints of fluids a day - most of that should be water

madeinthe80z · 01/07/2022 12:48

Nope haven't even heard back from the midwives yet for booking in!

I am slowly sipping water all day to try and get relief its like a horrible sour taste in my mouth and its all day but worse after eating 🤷‍♀️

Try ice cubes and ice pops / lollies instead of water.

CurbsideProphet · 01/07/2022 13:21

Unfortunately I had the horrible taste until 16 weeks 😬 Sweets made me vomit so I was on fruit pastille ice lollies to get some relief.

madeinthe80z · 01/07/2022 13:55

Urgh, 16 weeks?! I don't remember having this with my daughter! I will try some ice and ice pops, thank you for the suggestion 🙂

No advice but sympathy, also seven weeks and suffering with the same thing!

ChocolateCroissantCafe · 01/07/2022 14:04

Sparkling water helped for me (or tiniest bit of squash in water, but from the description your weird taste could be different to the one I had. Mine was closer to the metallic taste people mention sometimes). Drove me loopy, hope you find something that helps!

DreamingofItaly2023 · 01/07/2022 14:05

I had the metallic taste, unfortunately it didn’t go away until I gave birth.

Herecomestreble1 · 01/07/2022 14:25

Now 23 weeks but I remember the taste in my moitht

Herecomestreble1 · 01/07/2022 14:26

Posted too soon!

Now 23 weeks but I remember the taste in my mouth was the worst symptom I had during my first trimester. The only thing that helped me was ice cold water, and generally anything citrussy, be that sweets, drinks, fruit etc. You have my sympathies OP, it is awful!

Nikki305 · 01/07/2022 14:31

I had this until 16 weeks, yuk. Haribo and polos are worth a try!

Onebabyandamadcat · 01/07/2022 14:43

Me! You've described it perfectly - it's like I've ate far too many sweets and it's there all day. I've found anything with sweeteners is making it worse so I've cut out all sugar free squash, fizzy drinks etc. I'm sipping sparkling or still water with lemon and lime wedges for some flavour and gargling mouthwash for temporary relief.

I'm so glad you posted this though as I thought I was going nuts, I've found lots of references to a metallic taste but nothing about this. It's horrible!

HitsAndMrs · 01/07/2022 14:59

Yes! I have this too, just starting to go away at 20 weeks but it's awful! Thought it was just me to be honest so nice to know I'm not allowed.

Not much helped me but I did eat alot of mint imperials and polo's.

junebirthdaygirl · 01/07/2022 15:05

Really hard green apples relieved it for me but only for a short while. Then l had to have another apple. I was buying them in bulk. Its a horrible taste!

3amAndImStillAwake · 01/07/2022 15:34

Salt and vinegar crisps worked for me. It was gone by about 12 weeks.

madeinthe80z · 01/07/2022 16:14

Well at least we know we are not alone!!

Current list of thing to try:

Ice
Ice pops
Sparkling water
Mouthwash
Lemon water
Salt and vinegar crisps
Hard green apples

Thanks everyone x

Not salt and vinegar.
Just salty things. Plain crisps, crispy pretzels, etc.
Avoid sweet things and sour things completely.
