Abnormality following 20 week scan

Hi all!
Has anyone had an abnormality with an ‘elongated head’ following their 20 week scan? We have been referred to the fetal medicine specialist and our sonographer didn’t provide us which much information which makes me concerned and nervous. Everything else including brain appears ‘normal’ but the way the skull looks to be fused together is elongated like an oval shape. Waiting for the next appointment to be made and any advise or similar experiences would be appreciated.
Thank you🥺

Sorry you are going through this, I haven’t any experience but didn’t want to read and ignore, hope it all goes well with the specialist.

This may seem like a stupid question but as they haven’t found anything else worrying, I don’t suppose you or your oh have a similar shaped skull? I only say this as my ds had quite short leg measurements (not enough for them to be concerned about tho but they wernt completely in proportion to the rest of his body) he was born perfectly healthy just broad on top with little legs like his dad, still does.

Hi OP, sorry you are going through this. We had an anomaly picked up at our 20 week scan, the baby had hydrops which at that stage is really bad news. We were offered amniocentesis there and then by fetal medicine (we'd been told that might happen by our local hospital so were expecting it, maybe have a think now about whether you'd want to just in case). We said yes to amnio so they could try and figure out what was causing it/possible treatments/way forward and it was really quick and straightforward. Our 20 wk sonographer wouldn't say anything so it was actually a relief to talk to the specialist at fetal medicine and be able to ask questions.

So far whatever has caused it remains unexplained and in a major surprise had started to clear itself up at the next appointment a fortnight later...and again at 24 weeks. I've learned to just bounce from appointment to appointment and wait for the medics to do their thing and try to figure things out (now 27 weeks). It's a rollercoaster but knowing sometimes things DO work out fine does help, we'll just have to see.

Another thing that helps - easier said than done but try to stay away from Google, you'll only need to deal with one reality but reading about all the possible things that might go wrong just causes unnecessary upset

Hi @Bumblebee99 I don't have any advice but wanted to give you some support as I also had a 20week scan the other day - our boy seems to have renal pelvis dilation on his right kidney so we are seeing a specialist next week. It got me so worried and I'm hoping I can get some reassurance from the consultant. Hopefully you will also get your appt soon and have your questions answered. Good luck!
@PoopMaster that's great that your problem resolved itself, what a relief it must be! I agree about Google although I'm guilty of doing that in search of some explanation and reassurance. 😞
