Pregnant & Didnt know

Hi,

Please help me. I am sick with worry. I have just had what I think was implantation bleeding yesterday (few drops of blood after sex) i was expecting it was my period but ive had no blood since. My boobs are really sore & I have a bad headache & urinating more often. I took a pregnancy test yesterday but it was negative but I really have a feeling im pregnant. I am not expecting to be pregnant as I use the pill (this is my pill free week where i would normally get my period) but I have missed about 4 or 5 pills throughout the month whilst getting carried away with Birthday celebrations, etc.

The reason I am worried is because I have just celebrated my 30th Birthday over the last 2 weekends and drank a fair bit of alcohol both weekends. Please help, will my baby be harmed if i am pregnant? how far gone would i be if my implantation bleed was yesterday? How long will it take for a positive pregnancy test if i am pregnant?

Please help, I feel awful & sick with worry that i would hvae done damage as if i had planned or known i wouldnt have drank over the weekend.

Thank you

Katie

Someone will be along to explain about the pill as I'm not 100% sure.

But no, your baby won't be harmed by alcohol at this stage giving you haven't had a positive test yet so would be really early if you are.

If it was implantation bleeding yesterday you couldn't possibly have caused any damage 2 weeks ago.

AquaticSewingMachine · 29/06/2022 10:55

Calm down. If you turn out to be pregnant, and the fact your test is negative makes it unlikely, any drinking you did will have been before the embryo implanted and couldn't possibly affect it. Even after implantation the embryo lives off its own reserves for a week or two before it begins sharing your bloodstream.

There's really no need to worry about any drinking before a positive test. Just wait a few days and do another test, but bear in mind that pregnant enough for "symptoms" is generally pregnant enough for a positive and that all the symptoms you've described can come from premenstrual higher progesterone or mild hormonal weirdness from missing multiple pills.

I had a week of drinking a LOT over my 30th. A week later I found out I was pregnant with twins. They are 2 and perfectly healthy. Don’t stress!

Implantation is around 6-12 days after you ovulate, and after that the placenta doesn't nourishment until around the end of the first trimester so alcohol 2 weeks ago is unlikely have any affect.
Regular heavy drinking during pregnancy is obviously a concern, but many women
wouldn't know they were pregnant until a few weeks in and carry on drinking during that time and it's unlikely to cause damage.

Take another test and if it's positive obviously you know to stop drinking (or limit it anyway).

You've been given some incorrect advice on this thread. IF it was implantation bleeding yesterday, then a test won't be positive for 48-72 hours after that. It takes time after implantation for HCG to build enough in your system to show on a test.

Seriously don't worry about the alcohol. Lots of women drink before finding out they're pregnant and go on to have healthy pregnancies and babies.

IF you're pregnant and you're happy about it, relax and enjoy. Glad you enjoyed your 30th celebrations!

Hi,

I think it's far more likely that the bleed was to do with having sex. If you have been taking your pill correctly it's extremely unlikely you're pregnant. Especially since you have had a negative pregnancy test.

Implantation bleeding isn't that common. If it does happen, it's usually 6-12 days after an egg has been fertilised. The egg and sperm meet, and then the egg slowly moves down into the womb where it attaches. You wouldn't have any symptoms before this point, it's too early.

Once implantation has happened you start producing the pregnancy hormone which is what's detected by a pregnancy test. It takes a few days after implantation for the hormone to be strong enough to show up on a test, or to give you any symptoms.

In the unlikely event you are a few weeks pregnant already, you probably won't have harmed your baby.

But it does sound like you are probably not pregnant so don't worry 🙂

Ah sorry just saw you missed some pills. I still think it's unlikely you're pregnant though 🙂

LilyMarshall · 29/06/2022 11:13

If you're not pregnant, moving forward the pill is not the form of contraception for you. Go see your gp and ask them to run through better options.

babyjellyfish · 29/06/2022 11:45

Even if you are pregnant, which is vanishingly unlikely, if you haven't got a positive test yet you would have ovulated less than 10 days ago, meaning that absolutely nothing you did two weeks ago - or indeed right now - would have any impact.
