Sleeping on back

I'm 12 weeks pregnant and just wondering, is it still safe for me to sleep on my back? I really struggle sleeping on my side (hips become really sore).

I've also been very sick with morning sickness, so have been spending a lot of time in bed resting, where I'm lying on my back (watching Netflix, reading etc) - is this safe?

I feel like I'm thinking too much into it but first pregnancy and feel a bit clueless (as username suggests!)

You are completely fine on your back at 12 weeks. It's not until 28 weeks that they stress the importance of lying on your side to sleep. The main reason is because the weight of baby at that point compresses a major vein in your back so circulation is impacted. At 12 weeks baby is far too small to have an impact if you lie on your back.

If you find side sleeping uncomfortable, would recommend sleeping with a pillow between your legs or getting a pregnancy pillow and trying to get used to sleeping in that position from before 28 weeks so your body is more used to it. Hope your pregnancy goes well!

I’m 31 weeks and I know now I need to roll to my side when my back literally wakes me up hurting. Your body for the most part will tell you, and it’s around 28 weeks onwards. Enjoy those back slumbers

You're fine for now but you may want to think about how you're going to manage later on. I'm normally a front sleeper so in early pregnancy I would lay on my side until I gave up and went back to my front, it started to get easier and now I sleep on my side. Look into pregnancy pillows and maybe some exercises that might help with your hip, pregnancy yoga possibly.
