Shingles in early pregnancy

Hello, I’m 10 weeks pregnant with my rainbow baby and have been diagnosed with shingles. It’s all across my chest and back and is quite painful. The doc won’t prescribe anything as it’s ‘too late.’

I’m so scared this is going to affect the pregnancy. I don’t think I can cope with another loss. We saw a heartbeat at 8 weeks and I have another scan late next week.

Does anyone have any good news stories of shingles in early pregnancy without medication? 🌈

I had shingles early on in both my firdt and second pregnancies.
First time around, I caught it early enough to get the anti-viral meds and I wasn’t really that poorly with it, just had the painful rash.
Second time was way worse. I was so so ill - definitely the worst illness I’ve ever had in my life. No antivirals that time.
No negative effects on either baby.

Thank you so much @Ringmaster27 for getting back to me so quickly. You don’t know how much better this has made me feel 🤍

Everything online says shingles is fine in pregnancy but I can’t understand how good things can be happening when I feel this ill.

So pleased everything worked out well for you x

I had shingles when expecting dd. I was told it wouldn't cause her any harm and she was a (very large) healthy baby and now a lovely young woman.Smile
The spots are very sore and I remember feeling pretty rough, but no long term effects for either of us.

Amazing news @hugoagogo! Do you remember how many weeks you were when you had it?

Thank you so much for the speedy reply. I’ve never used mumsnet before but I’m finding this so comforting 🥰

I think roughly 7 months, it was a long time ago!

Yes mumsnet can be a great source of comfort and reassurance when navigating parenthood. Just keep away from AIBU.Grin

Haha @hugoagogo I had to google what that means 😂 Thanks again x
