Nervous wreck! Period cramps 16 weeks

Hi
I’m so sorry for another post. I’m a complete wreck and need some advice.

yesterday afternoon I started to get period like cramps but all over my stomach, not strong more a light ache. They went on for quite a few hours. I contacted the midwife for some advice explaining I’m recurrent miscarriage, her only response was ‘it is not normal go to a&e’ I asked if I could come to the pregnancy ward instead and she said no.
i went to a&e, feeling stupid as surly light cramps are normal?
a&e had a 7 hour wait and was so full, I went to the maternity ward and spoke with a nurse, after bursting in tears she explained it can be normal that things are stretching and the other midwife should never have said it wasn’t normal but has to air on the side of caution.
they couldn’t offer me a scan, I can book a private scan as they are all full.
i have a midwife appointment tomorrow to listen to the heartbeat.
mall my symptoms are the same etc.
but I’m a mess. My question is, other pregnant woman, is light period cramps normal? Or is this a bad sign? Thank you x

I was surprised at how many pregnancy symptoms were like period symptoms but you did right to get it checked. Presumably they did a urine test to rule of a UTI?

I did have some pain- your ligaments are stretching as the baby grows and sometimes that can feel uncomfortable, this is common with a first pregnancy especially. As you have no bleeding then it doesn’t sound worrying, but getting checked out is sensible. Hopefully the midwife will put your mind at ease tomorrow.

I'm just under 20 weeks and have had a lot of period type cramping pretty much throughout. I was convinced it was bad at first but now just accept it's par for the course with my body, although I do find it worse if I've over done it through the day. Good luck with your appointment.

Thank you ladies
I’ve finally calmed down - Mainly thanks to your comments and messages.
i am really trying to be strong and believe my baby is growing well, it’s just hard when something new happens and the crap response from the midwife didn’t help. Fingers crossed all goes well tomorrow. Thank you all again x

Hi OP, as others have said, the fact that you haven't had any bleeding to accompany the cramping is reassuring.

Doesn't your hospital have a maternity assessment/early pregnancy unit?

I went to maternity assessment 2 weeks ago due to strong cramping at which point I was 26 weeks and was put on a monitor to rule out early labour. Fortunately all was fine but always best to get checked out, I am surprised they didn't just listen in to the baby there and then to be sure all was okay and to put your mind at rest.

Never feel stupid for seeking advice or getting checked out, especially with recurrent miscarriages. Always better to be safe than sorry!

How did everything turn out for you? I’m experiencing the same thing at 16 weeks.

Hi @Nik84
so sorry I missed your message. It did. Are you ok now? X
