Baby stopped growing at 38 weeks

I'm 38+1 and had my 38 week midwife appointment today, with a different midwife as mine wasn't in.

When she measured my bump she said my baby had only grown by half a centimetre in 2 weeks, he was 36cm at 36 weeks and now is 36.5. I have been referred for a scan and am waiting to hear from them for my appointment date. I'm only 2 weeks away from my due date and wish the scan would be asap so I can know what's going on. Has this happened to anyone else? What was the outcome?

Thank you

My baby was measured wrong from my 36 week scan to my 38 week scan so measured off my growth scan. I was induced 2 days after my 38 week scan

My baby stopped growing at 36 weeks. They took lots of measurements at the scan to confirm it and they were also concerned about the blood flow from the placenta. I was induced 2 days later - it was fine. He was a bit small and jaundiced so they kept him in for a few days but he put on some weight and fed well and they let us go home.

He’s 11 next month and you’d never know.

The likelihood is that it's different people measuring (I once managed to 'shrink' 2cm in the length of time it took me to walk the length of the hospital)

The target for the scans BTW is within 72 hours of request, so you should hear tomorrow

Yes happened to me in both pregnancies. All was good

Just to say as well OP that you probably won't have to wait long for a scan, they tend to try and see you within 24-36 hours of the midwife referral. I hope it just shows that baby is fine and it's just a measurement error! Maybe take your hospital bag in the car just in case? We didn't for a growth check at 36 weeks and I wish I had because the anxiety of 'what if they keep me in' made sitting in the waiting room so much more stressful.

Hi everyone, just an update and for anyone who reads this in future, I had my scan today and everything was fine 🙏🏼 It was just a mistake made by the midwife and he's growing perfectly.

Thanks again for all your messages x

I’m really glad! Best of luck for the remaining few days/weeks!

So glad to hear this OP! My son stopped growing at 32 weeks wasnt picked up until 37 week scan. Consultant wanted me to carry on until 39 weeks i said no. She wouldn't budge. I ended up being rushed in at 38 weeks with pre eclampsia and nearly lost him. 2nd time round with my little girl i was monitored every week from 30 weeks and had scans every 4 weeks. She stopped growing at 34 weeks picked up at 37+4. Consultant was amazing and got us safely to 38 weeks and she was fine no pre eclampsia thankfully.
I'm glad you had it checked as its always best to have the scan to check.

Thank you @WalkingOnSonshine @abbs1!

Good job I went as well as I was approached in the waiting room by a Dr offering the whooping cough vaccine. My midwife never mentioned it to me, I had heard about it but wasn't told to do it and I never looked into it or chased it (kicking myself) but hopefully baby comes at 40 weeks or after and will have the antibodies as it takes two weeks 🙏🏼
