Antibiotics and steroids in pregnancy without covid and asthma

Hi guys, could someone please reassure me that taking a course of steroids and antibiotics with covid in pregnancy (currently 14 weeks) is OK and unlikely to cause any harm for the baby? I am asthmatic and on daily asthma meds fostair abd montelukast anyways, so that will go on top.

Thank you!!

Your GP wouldn't have prescribed it if it would be harmful to your baby. They are so cautious about medication in pregnancy. Hope you recover quickly!

Second pregnancy here. I’ve had 1 course of antibiotics and then another course of antibiotics and steroids during early pregnancy, also due to asthma and chest infections. I am on montelukast and fostair too (and was throughout my first pregnancy too). Everything has been fine. The doctor wouldn’t prescribe the medication for you if it wasn’t safe to do so.

I had so many antibiotics while I was pregnant- kidney infections, pleurisy, chest infection, sepsis in labour and then my daughter was born with sepsis and went straight onto antibiotics herself. She's absolutely fine!

Thank you so much GrowBaby, I guess my sense of reason is obscured by guilt and anxiety of taking loads of meds right now. What you say is 100% reasonable and takes all questions off the table!

I had to take a lot of antinausea medication in pregnancy. The thing that helped me is to remember that if you are ill, the do nothing option isn't really there anymore as your choices are limited by the illness. It's either take the medication, or be poorly which often has risks for the baby too. If the GP has prescribed antibiotics and steroids for you for Covid, it will partly because it's better for the baby for you to take them and get better than not take them and risk getting poorlier.

So sorry you had to go through all that, it must have been really stressful! Glad all was resolved and the kid is doing OK!

Hey Moonshine, thank you for sharing! I am new to asthma as only got it last year at 35yo! Did you find your chest infections increase in pregnancy? How often do you normally take fostair daily? I feel that my immune system just is non existent right now, from one virus or infection to another :)
