Abdomen above 90th percentile 32 weeks

I've just had my third growth scan this pregnancy. At 28 weeks baby was measuring perfectly on the 50th percentile for everything. At 30 weeks, her head had gone to the 80th percentile and tummy to the 90th. Now at 32 weeks her tummy is above the 90th percentile.
I am being tested tomorrow for GD, but just looking for any other stories? I'm beating myself up a bit that I must have done something wrong. The Dr was really casual about the whole thing and said whether I have GD or not then don't worry, and that they're more concerned when babies are small, but I can't help feeling like I've caused a problem somehow.
What are other people's experiences of babies measuring above the 90th percentile?

Sorry I can't be much help but I'm following with interest as I'm high risk for gestational diabetes. My baby's abdominal circumference was above the 95th percentile at the 20 week scan. They was also very casual about it

What do you think you've done wrong? You're just growing a lovely healthy chubby baby!

Those measurements aren't particularly big, my babies all measured way off the top of the charts during my pregnancies. They were all a good size but the one that measured the biggest was 8lbs9 at birth. There are always dozens and dozens of stories on here about babies measuring large, small and everything in between. Most of the time they come out and only bear a vague resemblance to the measurements!

The medical staff look at more than just measurements and numbers - there are various indicators of things going on and if there was anything to be concerned about they would discuss it with you.

I know it's hard when you're pregnant but just try to relax, eat healthily (with a decent measure of cake or whatever makes you happy), and enjoy growing your baby. They'll be here soon.

@JustRestingMyEyesForAMinute thank you so much for your lovely response. It's really reassuring to hear from others who have measured above the percentiles!
I think because this is my rainbow baby after losing my son at 33 weeks last year I've put a lot of pressure on myself to make sure she's fine and healthy (unrealistic I know!) so it was more just the shock of seeing her tummy grow and naturally blaming myself 🤦🏼‍♀️

I honestly think these scans are seriously inaccurate. My first baby was measuring 75th centile for head and abdomen. He arrived on the 3rd centile so triggered extra growth scanning in my second pregnancy. Second pregnancy baby has gradually declined from 80th centile to 50th centile then suddenly, a week later, back up to 80th centile. It's just not possible. Really don't worry about it, baby will be the size they are.

My thoughts are with you! I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant and baby has been on 90th centile at both 28 and 32 week scans (extra growth scans were pre booked as ivf pregnancy.) had my gtt and it was normal. I’m still very active, normal bmi etc but still felt it was my fault this was happening. However had an appointment with a lovely consultant last week who was very relaxed about it all! Hope your gtt goes ok. As someone else said growth scans can also be inaccurate. I know it’s hard to relax but your baby is growing just as it should!

I'm nearly 31 weeks and my baby's abdominal circumference is on the 97th percentile. I was tested 10 days ago for gestational diabetes and I DON'T have the condition. I, too, am asking myself if I've done something wrong. I weighed myself a few days ago and found I've gained 7lbs (seven pounds) during this pregnancy so far. I don't think that's in any way too much given that baby weighs about 4lbs and there's the placenta and amniotic fluid etc. So there's clearly either NO reason or an unexplained reason.

I don't think we should be beating ourselves up. My consultant keeps telling me it "just means you have a big baby". Not what I want to hear, but equally I don't want to hear "your baby is too small" either.

I don't know the cause (if not GD) or the solution, but making ourselves feel like crap for something out of our control isn't going to help either.

Best of luck (and health!) for the rest of your pregnancy!

Don’t stress. My kids were both enormous (10 lb 7 and 8 lb 11 (2nd was a couple of weeks early). They tested several times for GD but nothing - I just have large babies. Both born healthy and without C sections so they were the right size for me! And they felt a lot less delicate….

Oh that's really tough, I can understand why you're so quick to worry. ❤️

Honestly, the scans and measurements are just one tool the medics use along with lots of others to try to see how the baby is progressing. Sounds like your baby is just a lovely little chubby bundle growing happily at the moment. Good luck!

I was diagnosed with GD today. I’ve had 3 small babies (under 6lbs) and this one is measuring huge, with a big tummy. Also a rainbow baby (dd1 died as a baby) so I’m cross with myself although I know it’s not my fault.
As soon as I had the scan at 28 weeks that showed baby had a big tummy/ was measuring big, I started following a GD friendly diet. My GTT came back as normal but the diabetic consultant suggested I monitor sugar levels for 2 weeks and that’s how my GD has been picked up.

My first baby was tiny 5 1/2lb. I had every test going. Really difficult delivery with failed ventouse and 5 attempts with forceps. My second baby was on the 95th centile from the start. I was told ‘you are having a whopper here’ ‘10/11 lbs’. Had all the tests going again. My booking hospital Refused to allow me a section. In the end I transferred my care to another hospital as I had totally lost faith. He was 3 weeks early and 7 1/2lb. They are 11&9 now and just perfect. You haven’t done anything wrong. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and your baby when it arrives x

I also had this, no GD and actually lost weight during pregnancy (I was unwell). DS arrived weighing 2.5kg. He did have a bit of a big head but his tummy was totally unremarkable.
