Are all these beauty treatments safe during pregnancy?

I might sound a little stupid but first pregnancy and I'm a bit of an over thinker!

I was just thinking how I hadn't booked any beauty treatments in a while, mainly because I've been in bed with horrible morning sickness! But I would like to pamper myself and feel a bit glam and just nicer than I have felt recently over the next few weeks. But it dawned on me that maybe there are some things you can't do during pregnancy? I have just gone 10 weeks if that makes a difference.

  • Hair dye; Need to get my greys covered, is it safe to get all over colour?
  • Acrylic or gel nail extensions and gel pedicure
  • Eyebrow and eyelash tint
  • Teeth whitening, I have an at home gel but nervous to use it
  • Facial/Massage, I have read to wait until after 12 weeks, but just want peoples thoughts on if they're definitely safe after then
  • Bikini wax

Hey!

Hair dye, I would just do a patch test first but yes it's safe, it is recommended to wait until after 12 weeks though.

Nails, I've been having gel nails the whole way through (now 34 weeks).

Eyebrow tint, the same as hair dye I think, just have a patch test first.

Not sure about the others, sorry!

Waxing is just ripping hairs out😜Skin can be more sensitive in pregnancy so might smart a bit more than usual! But fine otherwise.

Not a medical professional, but this is what I remember being told...

Hair dye- better to get highlights

Teeth whitening - pretty sure that's not a good plan while pregnant

Nails and eyelashes probably fine

Massage - ok, but you need to check up oils that are safe in pregnancy. You could always buy a pregnancy safe one and ask them to use that (neal's yard have good ones). I think there might be some things the masseuse is not meant to do, so maybe read up on it and tell them you're pregnant. You can book pregnancy specific massage.

Waxing - from what I remember the issue is the potential for infection. Check with your midwife on that one.

Also vitamin A isn't safe, so check if you're using any products with that in.

I have at home teeth whitening gel kit. And the lady I get it from recommended not to use when pregnant. So I stopped using mine.

I get the eyelash lift and tint every few months, my last one I was probably 5-6 months pregnant, and that was fine. I will say that it took a very long time and I was on my back for all of it, and towards the end, I was very uncomfortable. For that reason, I'm holding off getting any more until after the baby comes. I thought I'd want one just before due date when things aren't quite as chaotic, but I'd rather be comfortable and safe re. not spending time on my back etc. The technician also said that lash lifts do not maintain as well in pregnant ladies due to the hormones going on, so expect it to not last nearly as long, if you do continue them.

Oh also one other fun one I just learned about recently... despite already having a DD. Apparently you shouldn't have both your fingernails and toenails done, particularly at the end of pregnancy. This is as they clip the blood pressure monitor onto your finger, and if they can't they put it on a toe, so need no polish for it to work properly. Guessing they can take off the polish quickly if needs be, but found it interesting to read about this item!
