Baby weighing nearly 4kg at 35+1

So had my last growth scan today and it just seems like baby is just getting bigger… she’s estimating at nearly 4kg at 35+1.. I’m not quite sure I believe that tbh. If it is true I can’t imagine going another 3-4 weeks.. I want to deliver naturally too not a C-section…

At 28+5 she was 1.9kg. Just over 2 weeks ahead
At 32+4 she was 2.9kg. Just over 3 weeks ahead

Now at 35+1 she’s 3.9kg. Just over 4 weeks ahead

She’s just getting bigger even tho I’m diet controlled and on insulin + metformin for fasting lol…. (I have gestational diabetes) as a first time mum it’s scaring me, just seems that baby is weighing massively bigger at each scan and keeps jumping ahead. Honestly just want to cry…

I was under the impression that the growth scan was just a good estimation, that it's an approximate weight? Try not to worry, the head circumference is really the most important thing. Put your feet up and relax for the next few weeks xx

@MollyRover the head is 4 weeks ahead -.- same with stomach ☹️

Please do speak with your consultant and seek their advice if you are worried. My DC's head circumference was on the 99th percentile so i empathise. And because of this my labour wasn't great and ended in forceps, episiotomy, prolapse etc. In hindsight I wish I had been offered a c section

TakeYourFinalPosition · 20/06/2022 11:38

It's an approximation. I had this all through pregnancy; they couldn't understand why as no GD. I had twice weekly scans; and from 28 weeks, was measuring 8 weeks ahead.

Baby was a smidge over 8lbs. Two of the sonographers I saw a lot even came up to meet him and laughed about how out the measurements can be for some people...

soundofsilver · 20/06/2022 11:50

They are an approximation (and lots of people will say their sonographer got it wrong) but in my case, they said I was having a very large baby, and they were right.
It's really daunting awaiting the birth knowing you've got a big baby in you. Speak to your midwife about your options. I ended up having a c-section and that worked well for me. There is no shame in not wanting to push out a 10lb baby!

My estimated delivery weight was all wrong. I did have a whopper though (10lbs and it was fine - minimal tearing, fast recovery). I'm not sure it's the size of the baby that makes a difference more than the position etc.

MadameDragon · 20/06/2022 11:58

The last week of my pregnancy, w35, I was in hospital and had a scan every day. The estimated size was different each day. It’s just an approximation. Definitely follow medical advice but no need to worry unduly otherwise.

Thanks everyone x

You have my sympathy, it’s terrifying to be told the baby is huge. I would be wary in your position, at that size already they are probably going to be talking about an increased risk of shoulder dystocia. Are you having good follow up conversations after the scans? If you want a vaginal birth realistically I think you need to be asking about induction although in my experience they were extremely reluctant to induce, but happy to book a c section. Yes, the scans can be out, but the trend is also important. Thinking of you!

I am also pregnant with a huge baby. Also have GD. I would be wary of shoulder dystocia if you have a natural birth…yes scans can be out but take the advice of your consultant?
