Real Positive or trigger shot residual?

Hi ladies,

I need some help and advice from you.
I took ovidrel trigger shot (6,500) on 7 June. I took 4 first response test in the past few days and the result is soo confusing to me. Can you help?

I took clear blue on 9 days past trigger at pm - faint positive (I thought it was the trigger)

I took another clear blue on 10 days past trigger at am - a lighter positive than the one before (I still thought it's the trigger)

I took first response on 11 days past trigger at pm - faint positive (I was not sure if this is the trigger or pregnancy)

I took another first response this morning 12 days past trigger - faint positive but lightning than the one before. So I m so confused.

What do you think? it's a false positive due to the trigger shot or is a real positive?

Thanks for your help.

I can’t see anything on the CBs I’m afraid. I would expect the trigger to be out of your system by 11dpo though but with the test getting lighter from 11 to 12 dpo, you may be experiencing a chemical pregnancy. However if you haven’t tested the trigger out then you don’t have any proof of a negative test before you started getting positives.

I would wait two days and test again.

On 9DPT CB the line was very faint.
On 10 almost negative.
Then first response become positive and then fainting.
So confusing Shock

However I always did a CB digital ultra early, from 8DPT and it always says "pregnant" even this morning at 12DPT is still positive.

With digital I can't trace the level of the line but it always says positive.
Not sure anymore.

Pregnancy tests really aren’t designed to indicate levels, there’s too many variables - dye levels, hydration levels etc.

If the digital says pregnant then I would take that as a positive. If it were me I’d book in for a hCG blood test in a couple of days to see if things are progressing.

I have a blood test booked tomorrow morning but I am so afraid the blood test not to be false positive because of the trigger shot I took 12 Days ago.

Here is the digital CB and it gives me the same result since 8DPT. The fear I have is to get my hopes up and then crash. Could it still be trigger today?

It’s unlikely to be the trigger in my opinion. My consultant told me that she’d have expected a trigger of that concentration to be out of my system after 5/6 days when I questioned her about a FRER positive at 11dpo.

With the blood test you have one tomorrow and one in a couple of days time. That will show you if it’s the trigger or not as you’d expect the levels to have doubled with a viable pregnancy. Good luck!!

What confused me is why on one first response I got one line lighter than the other a day after?
Have you experienced something like that?

This is what I was saying. Pregnancy tests aren’t really designed to be used like that. They are an answer to a yes/no question and not indicative of how much the hormone level is rising.

Forget the pregnancy tests for now, the blood tests will clear up any confusion.

You are very helpful. Thanks

One last question if you know :)
The blood test will not give a false positive due to the trigger?

I don’t know anything about trigger shots, but in early pregnancy my tests did vary in darkness, eg early in the morning test was darker than a later test, probably due to more dilute urine later.

Pollywoddles · 19/06/2022 12:36

The first blood test will give you a level. As you’ve taken a trigger you know exactly what dpo you are and they should be able to tell of it’s a good level for your dpo. At 13dpo you really wouldn’t be expecting any of your trigger to be remaining.

However the second blood test will tell you of your level is doubling in the required amount of time. This will only happen if you’re pregnant and wouldn’t be due to the trigger because of any of that is remaining (highly unlikely) then that would be going down and not up.

You are an angel. Thanks for your help 🙏
When you say first and second blood test, what's the distance between the two?

After the first blood test can I tell my husband I m pregnant or I need to wait for second?
Is the first one reliable enough?

OP posts:
RinklyRomaine · 19/06/2022 13:39

It's not whether or not the first is unreliable, it's whether the numbers increase or decrease over 48-72 hours. Whatever the draw says, they will roughly double in 2 days if it's pregnancy, or drop if it isn't.

Ah I see. So I need to do 2 blood tests with 2/3 days distance?

OP posts:
Pollywoddles · 19/06/2022 15:07

Yes, that’s it, I usually had mine 2 days apart but 3 or more is fine. They just need a starting figure to go on and then once they have the second value it can be popped into a calculator to see if it’s rising quickly enough.

And based on how it went to you, when do you take that you are pregnant from the first blood test or second?

OP posts:
caffeinecokeandchocolate · 19/06/2022 17:21

Are your tests days post trigger or transfer sorry? How many actually days post transfer are you?

Pollywoddles · 19/06/2022 17:25

Well you usually have a good idea from the first but the second will confirm whether the pregnancy seems to be progressing normally so I never take it as a given until I get the second result.
