going skiing on an already-booked-trip in February now I know I am pregnant? First time skiing, and I will be around 11 weeks then, the Dr said it should be okay (although we do live in France & advice seems a bit different to how I remember) but I can't help but feel a bit concerned. Can someone knock some sense into me one way or another please!

I wouldn't.

First time I went skiing, I spent the day falling over - a few really nasty falls which left bruises.

I'd go but not ski.

Exercise is good in pg - you just prob need to take it easy - no black runs....

I only went skiing once but had lessons before I went. I had some spectacular falls, one being right on my front and it was so hard the snow compacted up my nose and completely filled my sunglasses. I wouldn't/couldn't ski just remembering this particular fall. I didn't go on anything above the most basic slopes but even these weren't gentle, some of them were hairy. However, I went to America where I think they are a bit steeper than Europe (where I assume you are going). I would go with an open mind and if the instructors can tell you of a very gentle route I would stick to that. It may well be that if you tell them you're pregnant they may not agree to tutor you just because of the risk. Be honest, see what they think.

I did it when I was pregnant with my ds - I think I was about 7 or 8 weeks at the time. My Dr thought it would be fine. That said it made me more nervous than usual.

Can't go this season because I'm due in just under 8 weeks. DH and I keep looking at all the reports of large snowfalls and feeling really envious

jenpet,

Just realised that it is your first time skiing - so, further to my previous post - I should probably add that I don't think I would have gone as a first-timer, but I am generally pretty risk averse. I had skied for a number of years when I did it.

You could go, take lots of books, and sit in a mountain top cafe and watch your dh whizz past, you need posy sunglasses and effective lip block.

If you have not skiied before, I wouldnt go durning pg.

A french friend of mine found out she was pg just before a ski holiday; she went but spent her time sunbathing and admiring the instructors.

Thank you all for your replies. Part of the problem is our DS (6) is incredibly excited as it's the first time for all of us. Anyway, I have just e-mailed the ski school to ask their advice. As suggested I may go along & just not ski this time...thanks again

Jenpet, meant to say I would totally go and just not ski rather than not going on the holiday. The holiday itself was fantastic, you could agree to meet them at a particular restaurant for lunch and you can access all of them by chairlift, even the ones up the mountain.
In fact, I would dream of a holiday where I could go and totally relax while the others all catered for! Don't not go, I'm sure you will enjoy the rest.

Agree with the others - go, but don't ski - you need to be robust for it. Read, get a tan, get a massage, go swimming - have a lovely time
