Cannot believe I miscarried

Hi,

So, last week I miscarried at 10+2 weeks for the first time. I had a healthy pregnancy first time around and I am struggling to get my head around it. I didn't get past the five week mark as baby was still measuring that at an earlier scan. Can't help feel that it's my fault. I had a c-section with my first. Maybe that played a part? Just can't seem to stop going over it all in my head.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had a healthy pregnancy that I worried about. My second one it didn't cross my mind I would lose it until I went for an early scan and they couldn't find a heartbeat.

Being angry and very upset to me is all very normal. I still remember now how angry I felt at a happy excited woman going into the clinic as I left crying my eyes out.

Also remember your hormones have taken a huge plunge aswell post miscarriage. They will take some time to level out. With my first I had surgery. The day after I felt relieved it was done, 3 day later couldn't stop crying. Your poor body is adjusting to not being pregnant.

For now focus on your recovery and be kind to yourself. Cry - you have been through something awful. Slowly it will get better and easier with time.

I am so confused.

I was talking to a friend who'd experienced something similar to what I'd been through and she mentioned that it sounded like a chemical pregnancy where baby stops growing at five weeks. Is this why I couldn't find an embryo? Could it have been a chemical pregnancy? Did I even miscarry? I don't know what to believe anymore.

A chemical pregnancy is when you get positive tests but your period arrives or you get negative tests before ever having pregnancy confirmed with a scan or for it to develop past 5ish weeks. What you had was a missed miscarriage if the pregnancy didn't develop past 5 weeks but your body didn't realise for weeks past that.

Miscarriages are unfortunately very common, 1 in 4 pregnancies end in them. My first was very much like yours, in that I went at 10 weeks expecting to see a baby and found out they had stopped growing between 5/6 weeks. It was an incredibly hard thing to go through, and as it was my first pregnancy I was worried it was a sign that something was really wrong with me. But luckily I went on to have have more children afterwards with no issues.
