Hi there everyone,
I’m 5 weeks pregnant and I’m currently taking 40mg of fluxotine and 40mgx2 propanolol per day for my mental health.

has anyone had a healthy pregnancy whilst on these medications or had any complications due to them??
absolutely terrified to continue to take them incase it causes defects to the baby but also too scared not to take them incase it effects my mental health.

The best thing to do is speak to your GP / consultant and they can advise you on the risks / benefits. I don't take either of those but I do take citalopram. I took it during my first pregnancy and have a healthy and happy DC. I did wean off it in the few weeks before his birth as advised by my consultant and that was a huge mistake - my mental health took a complete nosedive and I ended up in hospitalised as a result of MH issues. This time consultant is v much advising it's extremely important for baby to have a happy and healthy mum and so I'm staying on citalopram throughout pregnancy and not weaning for birth. As I said, best to speak to your GP / consultant who can advise on the risks / benefits of each approach, but just wanted to reassure that despite taking antidepressants for most of my first pregnancy it didn't harm my child at all xx

I agree that you need to speak to your GP, Mental health team or mental health midwife rather than asking on here. Congrats BTW.

Ask for a referral and the antenatal mental health team- they are best to advise on this.

Ask your GP/midwife to phone UKTIS: 0344 892 0909. They are the national service commissioned by the UKHSA to advise on medicine use in pregnancy and will be able to help

Take a look at bumps too. They were so useful during my pregnancy

I would advise speaking to your consultant and have a look at the bumps site.

I am on different meds to you but my GP told me I should come off pretty much all my meds but my rheumatologist and asthma consultant disagreed and advised the GP what I needed and why.

Sometimes the risk to the mum of not taking meds outweighs any potential risk to baby. Sometimes there are alternatives meds so definitely speak to your consultant for advice.

I am also taking Fluoxetine and rang my GP to discuss. Their advice was to slowly come off it, however my midwife and the consultant strongly disagreed. They told me the risks to the baby were minimal compared to the risk to my mental health, and it would be much better for the baby for me to be stable as I am when taking the medication (I have been on it for 10+ years).

I was on propranolol. Basically they told me it would be unethical to test so they didn't know if it was safe but hadn't documented any side effects. Baby and I were fine
