Is reduced movements a thing at 23+3?

I haven't felt the baby this morning. She's usually active from first thing and all morning, quitens down on the afternoon then picks up in the evening and again late at night. She wasn't very active late last night but didn't think much of it thinking she'd be on the go again this morning. Except she's not. I keep thinking I can feel something but it's nothing compared to usual, more like a tiny little jerk deep inside.
Will the hospital have me in?

I've had a cold orange juice and some toast but it doesn't seem to have made a difference yet. My bump also feels softer than usual when I'm sat down

Always get checked for reduce movement. It is not normal for them to "slow down" and you know your babies pattern. It is not worth the risk "just waiting to see" if it has been a while already.
Congratulations btw and I hope everything turns out to be okay! Smile

@mumpower3 thank you. I will call them once I've done the school run. I'm just worried they're going to say about how it's still to early for a pattern etc

Pattern or not it isn't normal for reduced movements especially if you have been feeling baby in full swing normally. Definitely call them. If anything , they should tell you to come in and be monitored for a while to check baby is okay.

theotherfossilsister · 16/06/2022 08:30

Yeah go in, specially if you've been feeling baby until now

GrowBabyGrow · 16/06/2022 08:41

It is too early for a pattern (I was told that's really 28 weeks on) and most likely they have moved to a place you can't feel BUT they still would always rather you ring triage so they can check and you can be reassured. It's too early to put you on the monitor but they can check the heartbeat with a doppler.

Kam610 · 16/06/2022 08:56

It's likely that baby has just moved position, which is why your bump now feels soft and you can't feel the movements the same. Baby is still very small at this stage. Its usually later on at about 28 weeks they ask to track movements. But definitely call if you need some reassurance! I did the same when I was pregnant both times, I couldn't relax until I knew all was OK.

unsurewhatto · 16/06/2022 09:07

@Kam610 this is what I'm trying to tell myself too, but the anxiety takes over instead ! I just hate this feeling and definitely won't relax until I've seen someone.

I've just had some food so will give it 30 mins sitting down quietly and if I still haven't felt anything I'm calling and saying I would like to come in

This happened to me yesterday and I’d had reduced movements for 2 days and finally called the hospital after work last night as was very worried. They said to go in and checked the baby’s heart beat (which was fine) but they said I should have gone in the first day to stop myself from worrying. They weren’t annoyed or anything and there was no queue. They said if it happens again to just go in.

Absolutesuperstar · 16/06/2022 09:14

I would move around rather than sit down. But certainly get checked out.

unsurewhatto · 16/06/2022 09:15

Thanks @kaleidoscope123 how far along are you?
I'm feeling some movements now. They're small but definite. So unsure what to do now !

How come you would move around instead ?

Definitely go and get checked. iME the maternity unit never mind checking if these things out. Try not to panic, wishing you the best.

Tadaaaaaaaaa · 16/06/2022 09:18

Honestly my baby never had a routine and would often have 'quiet days' and reduced movement but I always got checked out just in case. He was fine but they never had a problem with checking!

ThorsBedazzler · 16/06/2022 09:22

Always go and check. You aren't wasting anyone's time. If things are different and you are concerned, go in. They would always rather you do that than sit and worry.

I also wouldn't use a home doppler to check for a heart beat as they can give a false sense of security. Always go and see a midwife or go to your hospital antenatal clinic/midwife unit/wherever your midwife told you to go.

Hopefully the baby has just changed position for a bit, at this stage there is enough space for them to do that.

I wouldn't really on suddenly feeling the baby move after another 30 minutes as evidence of anything. You feel like her movements are reduced, so go get checked. Hope all is well.

Thanks. I don't have a Doppler and would never get one either

SurpriseSurprise · 16/06/2022 09:45

unsurewhatto · 16/06/2022 10:51

I've been in. In and out within 20 mins ! They listened in and said the baby is fine. She is very quiet though !! Thank you for everyone's help. I always feel such a pain but just have to know she is okay I can't sit there worrying

OP posts:
kaleidoscope123 · 16/06/2022 12:21

They said to me there’s no point worrying and just to go in and not even wait a day like I did as it’s not worth the worry! I’m 28 weeks tomorrow.

RoseAndRose · 16/06/2022 12:37

I have been told by more than one MW that they'd rather check 100 women who it turned out didn't need it than ever miss the one who did.
