Hi all,

first time mum, currently 18 weeks and 4 days pregnant but I’m worrying constantly. I have a anterior placenta and been told I won’t feel the baby move till 24 weeks🥲

however I feel constantly there is something wrong and so worried that she will have no heartbeat on my next scan🥲

am I being stupid or is this a normal feeling to have?

any advice welcome💗

I share your pain with anterior placenta but some women with it have felt it by 20 weeks.

When is your anomaly scan?

beckyjoexx · 15/06/2022 17:36

yeah no one tells you how stressful having it is! I keep hoping I feel her soon, but I feel like I’m constantly thinking there is something wrong

1st July so still over 2 weeks to go🥲

Hi, I felt just like you did earlier in my pregnancy (it is better now but still have a feeling of dread). I had some private scans which helped for some reassurance and then I started to feel baby moving at around 22 weeks - I also have an anterior placenta. I'm almost 33 weeks now and feel her moving every day - I feel much more relaxed although there's still times where I think something is going to happen to her. I have been in twice for reduced movements as I was worried I hadn't felt her and the staff were so lovely - if you ever get worried then ring them!

The best thing I did was speak to my friends and family and midwife about how I was feeling. My midwife listened in to baby's heartbeat at my 16 week appointment for reassurance and then I had my anomaly scan at 20 weeks - when I heard all was ok at that scan I did instantly feel much more relieved.

Do you have anyone you can talk to? When's your next scan? X

strawberrysummer19 · 15/06/2022 17:50

@beckyjoexx hi I too have anterior placenta
This is my 2nd Pregancy but I didn't have AP with her and compared to my 2nd pregnancy movements she is so much less active!!

I'm 34 wks today and honestly I felt exactly like you at this stage. It was more 22 weeks where I felt movement and I remember feeling so worried leading up.

I'm not saying this to worry you - in fact I'm hoping it gives you some comfort

I thought by the time I feel baby moving I'd feel better - I didn't - ive felt this anxiety throughout and even now. I've been in 3 times for monitoring for reduced movements all to turn out ok. I've posted on here a fair bit about it actually.

I'm 34wks, feeling her move daily, scans have been fine and midwife app where you hear the heartbeat all good
I had midwife and scan today showing a healthy baby, heart flicking away and good growth but yet I'm still like ' is she ok ' when she does quiet!

Ridiculous I know! And I'm trying to be over anxious! I'm trying my best to enjoy the last few weeks of pregnancy but I must say it's been hard.

Please message me if you want to talk
I know the feeling of worrying and I can relate.

I know that when I'm holding her the anxiety won't go away and there will be other worries ! I remember that well with my first.

Sometimes I think with ap the movements are muffled.
I even see her moving on the screen (20wks scan) moving all over the place and not feeling them! This happened right up into around 30wks which I must say they are stronger I guess as she's almost 6lb!!! But some days I do feel she has quite moments and as I say never had it with my first

X

@wishuponastar1988 I felt similar to you too and we are similar in gestation!

It's sort of nice when you know people are feeling the same - like you aren't going mad !!
Xx

I had an anterior placenta with my 3rd baby and I felt her early on like my other 2….I didn’t have any issues with feeling less movements so not always the case x

beckyjoexx · 15/06/2022 18:38

Hi all,

thank you so much for you advice! I suddenly don’t feel like I’m alone with feeling like this. No one makes you understand the fear you have from the moment you fine out your pregnant.

I heard her heartbeat at 16 weeks 6 days and saw her on the scan and it helps for a few days then I go back to panicking again thinking something is wrong.

my next scan isn’t till 1st July so I’m trying to think towards that more than anything.

I always feel stupid speaking to my midwife or anyone because I feel like it’s my own insecurities more than anything being wrong with baby😭

but again - thank you all for letting me know I’m not alone xx

@beckyjoexx if talking to midwife is going to give you the reassurance you need then do it.

beckyjoexx · 15/06/2022 19:02

Thank you! I’ll give her a call and see if she can give me some reassurance!💗

I didn't find my midwife helpful she just said you should feel baby.....if not call in. She said even with AP you should still feel movements
But I'm only comparing it to my 1st pregnancy

I had regular scans which got me through and because I'm under a consultant I had growth scans 28wks 32wks and one coming up at 36wks
In my eyes it's not a lot of money to pay for the peace of mind it gives me

Honestly I sobbed at my 16 week midwife appointment when my midwife asked how I was feeling. I would constantly think something had happened. She listened to the heartbeat at the appointment because I was so upset and then within a few hours I was worrying something had happened. I still hold my breath when they are checking the heartbeat now or if I'm having a scan - so so many people feel the same way so don't feel ashamed or silly. X

AbbiL0u · 15/06/2022 20:24

I’m 19 + 4 and feeling the exact same, I haven’t seen baby since 12 weeks and haven’t heard the heartbeat so really ready for the 20 week scan to know all okay in there! I have felt something a couple of times but they are days apart and could have been something else, good to know we are all feeling similar! 💕

how did you all find out you had an anterior placenta? Is it from a scan? :)

Mizzy19 · 15/06/2022 21:11

I'm 21 weeks in, almost 22.
I've also got anterior placenta and they say you may not feel till later on.i felt the first movement a day before I hit 21 weeks.
My first little one I had posterior placenta, so movements were felt earlier on.
I also decided at 16 weeks to get a private scan as wanted to know the well being and gender, that was reassurance for me. In fact, they told me at 16 weeks I had anterior placenta and my anomaly scan was a day before 21 weeks, so told tlthe same there.
Plus my 16 weeks midwife appointment, they usually do the heartbeat scan/doppler, so she said all was ok. With heartbeat.
I think it's best to just stay positive.
Best wishes for you x

firsttimemomma93 · 15/06/2022 21:15

Anterior placenta here too!
I felt movements about 19 weeks and was really shocked tbh I felt them so soon! But please don't worry if you don't feel anything till later on, you've just got extra padding between you and baby where your placenta is! 😁 I used to come home from work lye on my back and drink ice cold water (I will say the movements didn't have a pattern until about 24 weeks) they were just very random!

beckyjoexx · 15/06/2022 23:09

Honestly thank you all so much! I think I’m just panicking about everything which after reading this I know now I’m not the only one!

I found out about my placenta on a scan about 16 weeks and she told me it might take up till 24 weeks for me to even feel anything!

Ive got 2 weeks till my next scan and hopefully get to see my little girl again💗

Completely hear you! I’m 18 weeks today and also have anterior placenta so know not to expect movement just yet but it doesn’t stop you getting anxious. Had 4 miscarriages, most of them missed ones so constantly worrying that there might be no heartbeat. Miscarriages were all between 6-10 weeks so really hoping I’m safe-seen the baby boy on a private 16 week and wriggling round like it should. I find the midwife appts settle you for a few days but then anxiety kicks in again. It’s really not helpful advice but just a case of riding it out and knowing you’re not alone! Xx

beckyjoexx · 16/06/2022 09:28

@Waitandsee86 fingers crossed for you lovely!

Weve had 2 miscarriages and this is the furthest we’ve been so far! Little girl was wriggling around at 17 weeks so I’m hoping everything will be okay! But your right I’m so constantly terrified that there’s gonna be no heartbeat at the next scan.

Im here if you ever need to talk! 💗

Ahhh thank you and the same goes for you. So so nerve wracking isn’t it, terrified to get excited but at the same time trying to stay positive and wanting to make plans it’s just emotionally challenging arghhhhhhhhh.
The worst thing is when people say ‘oh it will be fine just stay positive’ 🤦‍♀️😬really not helpful lol

Pregnantpolly · 17/06/2022 10:33

Totally agree with the worry going into the scans.
