Hit in stomach and bitten

Hi,
21 weeks pregnant and scared. I was hit by a heavy hat akin to Frisbee weight in stomach.
I have also been bit a few times drawing blood by a child. I don't know vaccine or disease status of child.

What should I do?

Human saliva is full of bacteria, I'd ring the doctor to ask what they recommend.

IncompleteSenten · 15/06/2022 10:37

Human bites that break the skin may need antibiotics so you should contact your gp.

Re the frisbee, that must be very scary but the foetus is really well protected in there. Talk to your midwife and get advice.

Do you work with children? Is there a risk assessment in place?

ofwarren · 15/06/2022 10:38

You should be fine from the hat but you should definitely ring a doctor about the bite. You usually need antibiotics for a bite from a human being.

Skinnermarink · 15/06/2022 10:39

A hat? well I mean unless it was a military helmet I’d probably not be co curbed about that.
presumably you cleaned up this bite mark? TCP? If so again, I wouldn’t be worried. But why is a random child biting you?

Skinnermarink · 15/06/2022 10:39

Sorry *I’d not be worried.

ok yeah probably in hindsight seek medical advice on bite.

CurryandSnuggle · 15/06/2022 11:01

The hat will be fine. I had a football kicked directly at my uterus at 36 weeks pregnant and she didn’t even seem to notice! She’s been born since at 40+2 and is well 😁 They are very well protected.

I’d wash the bites and if they look infected I’d seek medical advice.

Pregnantpolly · 15/06/2022 11:54

@AmbushedByCake1 took your advice and now at a&e. @ofwarren aghh thought that may be the case.
@IncompleteSenten I generally work in a lot riskier circumstances but I'm not public facing now but had to look after a nonverbal ASD child today. No real risk assessment but definitely putting in an injury form today.
@Skinnermarink it was similar to a military hat but not helmet. He's not verbal and has ASD and wanted outside/ risky behaviour.
@CurryandSnuggle that's reassuring

@Pregnantpolly what's your blood type? If you are negative you will need and anti d injection after the hit to the stomach xx

WhatInFreshHell · 15/06/2022 12:10

Why A&E OP?

TheVolturi · 15/06/2022 12:17

Did this all happen in one day?

Pregnantpolly · 15/06/2022 13:00

@Annny27 also phoned midwife and she didn't seem concerned about that part.
@WhatInFreshHell to see if bites require medical treatment.
@TheVolturi yes

Hit by a hat? I think that will probably be fine…

The bite may need looking at but I’m not convinced, unless it’s a large bleeding wound, it warrants A&E.

Pregnantpolly · 15/06/2022 16:50

I'm in my 2nd hospital of the day and going to get my anti D injection.

Will they check baby is OK?

Did you go to A&E first? Surely GP or midwife could have confirmed about treatment of bite?

Pregnantpolly · 15/06/2022 17:05

@MissNothing1991
I was in work. Midwife advised to go to A&E with regards to bites to see whether I'd need antibiotics. Hospital is less than a mile from my work. It made sense to go.

If you ask them to, they will

Ah, I read again and realised it might have come across as cheeky. I didn't mean it that way if it did, I just thought they would have asked you to go to GP to avoid panic or anything! Rather than sitting in A&E for possibly hours!

WitchWithoutChips · 15/06/2022 19:14

They may also recommend a hepatitis jab.

Pregnantpolly · 15/06/2022 21:40

@ofwarren thanks they were helpful and did doppler and ultrasound

@MissNothing1991 tbf going to GP instead makes sense. The hospital I attended is pretty quick so literally nipped in and out.

@WitchWithoutChips thankfully had that with work in 2019.

Update: was waiting a wee while but everything is OK

I’m assuming you phoned your midwife to ask about the bites? Or your GP? Or 111?
A+E sounds a bit extreme.

Soontobe60 · 15/06/2022 21:46

Sorry, just saw your update.
