Pre-washing newborn clothes

Hi all,
I know the recommendation is to pre-wash all of baby's clothes to get rid of any factory chemicals etc, but I'm really struggling with the smell of detergent at the minute!
I've found one that I've used through pregnancy but it isn't non-bio, so I'm not sure it's suitable for baby clothes? Would it be enough to just put them on a warm wash without any detergent? Thanks

But surely you are washing your clothes / towels / bedding?
If so , just put the baby clothes in with that?

I loved nothing more than my newborn smelling so fresh/ of home and it also softened the fabric.

You just have to imagine the factory , dust , loads of different hands touching it then doing the "checks" before it is then finally packed!
Yuck.

I prewash anything which my skin is going to touch directly so I am surprised people don't do it for newborns.

Would you wear pair of knickers without washing them first?

Yes. My whole 43 years on this planet!

As in I've never washed pants before wearing them.

I never prewash any clothes bought from a shop, knickers or anything. I would think anyone bonkers to do that.

I don't pre wash stuff. You don't need to use non bio for babies either.

The eco stuff tends to be a bit less scented if you want to wash things.

Washing doesn't soften things unless you have a tumble dryer. It's the drying that softens it. Before I got a dryer I could never get them as soft and lovely as they come from the shop!

I will add I am am perfectly aware of the chemicals they put on the clothes, I just don't think it matters. Obviously if someone had sensitive skin then I would, but it doesn't bother any of us.

I'm not worried about people having touched clothes or them being on the floor.

Wash it in the powder you can stand, it's fine for it not to be non bio. And line dry as I find that reduces the smell!

I never prewashed for either baby. I also didn't bother with cotton wool and water second time around.

I didn't pre-wash with my son and I don't think I intend to either with this baby. It might sound crazy, but I love the crispness of brand new baby clothes!
