Anyone else had this in pregnancy? I'm 39 weeks and got it quite bad, numb, tingling hands and fingers that worsens at night.

Midwives saying it very common and usually goes away after birth.

But not really anything to treat it during pregnancy 😞

I got it really early on, nothing could do. Midwife just told me to deal with it and it will go when I give birth 🙃

Did you get splints for it? It will go after birth at least.

Me! There are things you can do to help it - wrist twists multiple times a day (like rotating your wrists around), stretching back your wrist to a right angle using your other hand, and also trying not to claw your hands when sleeping and sleep with prayer hands. I'm seeing an osteopath for my PGP and mentioned the pins and needles in my hands and that's what she recommended and it is working so far! I'm 37 weeks and have been doing the exercises about a month and I think it's much better than it was

I got splints and acupuncture for mine- surprised they're not doing more for your. Compression gloves helped too

Morechocmorechoc · 11/06/2022 22:39

Had it terribly, couldn't even get dressed or use cutlery. It mostly went but I still get issues with pins and needles when hands are up so pushing pram or cycling.

Yes!! Also 39 weeks. Have had numb hands when I've been sleeping for a few weeks now but just recently in the past couple of days have had shooting nerve pain in my right hand when doing finer motor activities that put pressure on it like stirring food or using a knife to cut things. It's really unpleasant!

VeronicaFranklin · 11/06/2022 23:45

You don't know how reassuring this is that other people have it, I saw an obstetrician last week to review a growth scan who when I mentioned carpel tunnel told me carpel tunnel is only for people who work with computers... Nothing to do with pregnancy. I came away thinking I was going mad 😏

My Midwife said it's really common, I might try getting some splints and sleepinh with my hands in prayer position 🙏

I got it really early on with my first and actually couldn't use a pen from about 22 weeks. I could type fine though.

It went away and didn't return for my second pregnancy

Reassuring it went away 🤞
As I've heard it can sometimes cause long term nerve damage 😬

It's super common during pregnancy, I'm 19 weeks and it started a couple weeks ago in my right hand. I'm following the nhs website guidance and wearing a support at night (about £10 from amazon) and its really improved. Worst triggers are washing my hair etc in the shower. Work are aware and making allowances, but haven't told midwife yet as it's so common and nothing she can do other than tell me to wear the support x

Oh gosh, I had this terribly in both hands from 28 weeks on in my first pregnancy. I tried splints but it did nothing! But it did go as soon as I gave birth! So you won’t have to put up with it much longer :)

Currently 24 weeks with my second and waiting for the pins and needles to start again!

Yeah it's in both my hands constantly now too. It came on gradually from about 34 weeks in one hand then by 38 weeks both all day and night.
I've ordered some splints but since I'm 39+2 I'm hopeful baby will make an appearance soon and it'll go away 🙈

Currently can't even hold a cup of tea! 😫

You can get splints off Amazon, definitely worth it for overnight as helps with being less numb in the morning.
