I am 28 wks and beginning to panic at how I am going to cope. When I agreed to get pg DP was working and well. Now he is a depressive unable to work. I am disabled and cant work. How the hell are we going to afford the lightweight pram (for buses), the nappies, the cot, the clothes? OMG sorry for freaking out, it just hit me.

bearmama, why don't you write a quick list on here of all the things you still need and we'll see what people have got to give you ffp? if there's anything on the list I can donate I will (have 4 mo ds)

charlotte121 · 08/03/2008 12:22

Heya. Dont panic. I am on my own with ds and im expecting dd 1st of june. Im at uni so have very limited funds and was shocked when i found out i was expecting a girl i just sorta assumed that i would have another boy and i started panicing as i didnt know how i would afford a whole new wardrobe of pink. However family and friends have ralleyed around me and I have literally been given everything i need for the new baby. I know that its not quite the same as your situation as i had the bear essentials like bottles, cot etc but having voiced how worried i was to my family i have been pleasently supprised how helpful everyone has been. ebay is great. I need a double buggy for the new arrivle and have found that they are a snip of the retail price on there and charity shops and friends with children are great too. Just beg, borrow and steal anything you can. Half of it only gets used for a few weeks at a time. Good luck. you sound like you have a very sensible head on your sholders

BearMama · 08/03/2008 13:31

wallydolly I dont have a baby bath as such but was given a tummy tub. What do you think? Are they just as good?

Dalrymps, there are a few things I am still worried about, esp a sling and bedding. Cant believe how much slings are !!!

peatbogfaerie - have I already contacted you? Sorry but have very bad pregnancy brain. My email is [email protected].

Fifisworld - ta for the bumps! x
Have been given a Grobag for 0-6 and some nappies already and two other Mumsnetters are arranging to give me some clothes which is lovely and much appreciated.

charlotte121 - thanks for your comments. DP keeps trying to tell me that people always give stuff AFTER the baby is born but I'm a "be prepared" kind of person and anyway just want to focus on baba as much as poss after the birth without worrying that I dont have a cot/sling/enough bedding etc!

The next Polwarth nearly new sale is on 26th April - look for the website under polwarth nearly new sale and you will find details. You could get everything you need there for sure at really cheap prices.

However it is a bit of a scrum. Just make sure you join the queue to get in 45mins to an hour before it starts, take DP with you, and then head for the most expensive items first (cot, pushchair) and leave the clothes 'till last as there are always plenty of babygroes on offer.

Can you tell I've bought most of DD's toys and clothes at this sale?!

Egg · 08/03/2008 13:50

ooooooooooooooh i have a SLING! Just read your last post, you may not want my clothes as well if you have others being sent, but better to have too many and then pass them on to someone else who needs them but anyway...

I ordered a second sling as thought mine were too small for my Baby Bjorn. It is a brand new Hug a Bub sling (black). I have taken it out of the pack but not even unfolded it (it scared me tbh, but having read reviews they are supposed to be fabulous). If you would like it I really would be happy for you to have it.

BearMama · 08/03/2008 14:01

Egg and Lordashley - thank you! I have just finished whinging on a new post about feeling fat and fed up but all you Mumsnetters are being so nice it is making up for it.

Egg, my friend was raving about the Hugabub and I would love one but cant believe how much they are - are you sure???? Will email you.

Lordashley - thanks for the tip. I was planning to go to this one but wasnt looking forward to having to sharpen my elbows first. However DP is a strapping six footer so if I can persuade him to accompany me I'm sure that will help

yes yes yes am sure. I have had it 6 weeks and not bothered to return it. Think it is too late now and I would rather you have it. Honestly. Will look out for your email. It has an instructional DVD with it too so I will send it asap so you have time to work out how on earth to use it before your little girl arrives!!!

Dalrymps · 08/03/2008 21:53

I might have a bit of cot bedding going spare, i'll have a look and let you know

BearMama · 08/03/2008 23:02

Thanks Dalrymps. Think I am getting a cot from a friend. Had to be told that I wont need one straight away as cot way too big for tiny baby so no rush and no worries if you dont.

OP posts:
Dalrymps · 08/03/2008 23:48

well it depends, think some people use cots straight away but most use a crib/moses basket. It's really no problem about the bedding, i'll see what i've got... if you want it that is, don't feel like you have to accept it but the offers there
will post on here soon to let you know what i've got and you can decide if you want/need it at that point

Egg · 09/03/2008 08:12

I have only ever used cots for my babies, never bothered with extra cost of moses basket. DS1 was in his cot from the day he came home from hospital and I have two cots for the babies but at the mo they are in the same one.

If someone gives you a moses basket then it's great and handy as you can move it from room to room etc but you don't need to buy one if you don't have one.

Very pleased you are having my sling. I will post tomorrow hopefully .

BearMama · 09/03/2008 10:56

Ok Dalrymps - that's great - thanks!
Egg - Good point about the Moses basket being portable and cant wait to get the sling. Am 38 wks today and just think she could arrive anyday now. Got MW appt tomorrow so we'll see.

Hi there! I am in Fife although used to be in Edinburgh and just wanted to send you a virtual hug. We're expecting our first and we've bought second hand from charity shops and friends. The only thing we've bought so far that is new is our pram and we went with one that met our needs - turned out to be one of the cheapest.

If you can, have you thought about heading out to Edinburgh Market at Ingliston or Kinross Market on a Sunday to see if they have bits and pieces there.

We've got load to go on e-bay to help us over the coming months get what we need.

Dalrymps · 09/03/2008 11:39

Hey bearmama!, sorted out my cot bedding, i've got 2 white fitted sheets, 2 cream flat sheets and a cream cellular blanket you can have if you want them? Think they're all mothercare/zorbit ones...the sheets are soft flannelette ones.If so just email me your address and i'll post them - [email protected] (is dh's email)

BearMama · 09/03/2008 11:41

Hi finallypregnant, thanks for the hug. The support I have had from ppl has`been great and I have also been on Gumtree and Freecycle. Am trying to do most stuff online as not very mobile lol.
