36 weeks pg and really struggling to walk

Is this normal? I'm sure I was fine last time, and was walking dogs until the day ds came along (38 weeks).

I went for a very short walk around town and then the supermarket yesterday morning, and by late afternoon I could barely walk. I was able to shuffle very slowly about the house like an old lady and it was agony.

This morning, mobility seemed to have been restored (albeit a graceless pg waddle), so I took ds and the dog for a very short walk, and now I can barely move again.

Is this just what happens at 36 weeks?

Muffin, I'm 23 weeks with my third and have noticed that ALREADY I am getting puffed walking the dog. I can't believe I started this early with the others but I am seriously noticing it already and wonder if she's even going to see a walk by the end!! I think I'm quite a fit person, OK I have put on a bit of weight but maybe your body just reacts differently each time?

It's pain rather than just tiredness, then it sounds like SPD. Is the pain in your pelvis, as if you've been kicked in the groin? At this stage, you've missed the worst of it. Your hormones are in overdrive loosening you up for delivery.

Unlike backpain where physios will give you exercises, if it's hormonal, the only thing you can do is NOTHING!!!!

I had hideous SPD with dd, and not so bad this time round (25 wks). This time, if I even feel a twinge, I stop and rest - it's the only way for the pain to ease.

Have a look at the Pelvic Partnership site. If it is SPD, you'll need to think about positions for delivery to make sure you don't cause any long term damage.

The pain is more at the back really - buttocks and thighs - and my legs just won't move as they should. I'm hobbling around clutching onto furniture for support.

I had a week of not really walking last week. Mw told me to rest (high bp, protein in unrine - pre-eclampsia warning signals) which I did. Then, stupidly, I felt so much better that I've been trying to do normal things again and am perhaps paying the price.

Is it back pain muffin? Or is it bad braxton hicks? I know I ceased up the other day when I really over did the housework, my back became very stiff and painful (38 weeks).

Maybe sciatica?

Definitely need to ease up if you can. I had a fab first pg, but 2nd was so different!

it sounds to me like the baby has dropped into your pelvis ready for the big day!! ive got 3wks left and one day when i was 35+ i found it really hard to walk with all my pelvis area really hurting and feeling lots of pressure in the back passage. your 36wks, so its not unsual for the baby to drop down, my midwife confirmed she had dropped down when i was just over 36wks, have you had a appointment recently?

Oops, cross post - sorry! Have you been over doing it lately? Perhaps you should just slow down a bit and not try and do too much at once?

Had a mw appointment on Friday, and the baby was only 3/5 engaged then (have another one this Friday).
Could have dropped further I suppose. Doesn't that happen later in 2nd pregnancies?

it sounds to me as if you have, i think my babys defo dropped since midwife saw and that was like last wednesday, and to be honest i wasnt expecting to drop so soon either as this is my second too. but hey thats a good thing , means not long now!! bring it on i say,lol

Might be sciatica (sp?)
When i was Pg with DD I would get a stabbing pain through my buttock down the back of my leg.

I had this-had to bend over or sit down every three steps from about 35 weeks, and dd was late too! It happened once she had "dropped", but still had to wait another 6 weeks for her to arrive! Struggled to sit too as her head was in the way and I was worried I would hurt her neck or something, but you're allowed to pull weird body poses-you're pregnant! Don't worry, all perfectly normal-I like to think it's because we are so slender there isn't much room left once they get bigger! x

my thoughts exactly, pre-preggers i only weigh 8st and have a small frame so yeah thats a good way of putting it!!

I have this at 39 weeks and it is horrible, I have found that it is worse when I rest because I am focusing on it so I try to stay as mobile as possible but sensible about it..

My pain is on my left side and feels like it is inside my bum and shoots down my leg can only walk with a limp at the moment which is crap!

I was a size 8 pre preg and I honestly don't think there is any more room for her to move around now so agree with trish12! Birthing ball works wonders by the way and JJB sports are doing them for 4.99 at the mo.

speaking of birthing balls, ive got one and wondering if it will help her move even further down ready for birth & can accelerate labour

apparently they are excellen t for getting her to move down I feel like my lo has dropped even further eventhough I am 1/5 now so any further and she will be out- thats the plan!
I have just been bouncing up and down on mine and twhen I have BH doing figure of 8's..

Sitting on the heated car seat yesterday afternoon seemed to work wonders. It still hurt but I could move.

Feeling much better today (although I haven't actually walked anywhere yet).

Just hooked my birth ball out of the cupboard! (boing, boing, boing!)
muffin - Try and take it easy and have a day of mooching about the house today if you can, and when you do walk, try and go slowly and carefully and not too far if poss', it might be that if the baby is that far down, this is what you have to do. Everyone is built different, so maybe it is more uncomfortable for some than others.

I had this from about 36 weeks and stupidly assumed it would go away after the baby was born. It got progressively worse from 36 weeks and by 39 weeks, when I went into labour, I could barely walk. It was more painful in one side and as you say through the buttocks/lower back. DD was two weeks old before I could leave the house to take her for a walk. I saw a physio and it turns out I had the opposite of SPD, basically, it was the sacroiliac ligaments that had been over stretched. If it doesn't improve go and see your GP, maybe they can refer you to a physio quickly? Mine gave me a kind of back brace which really helped, but I think if I had been wearing it when I was still pregnant it would have helped even more. Good luck!

Oh goodness. I was assuming it would disappear once the baby arrived. Will mention it to my mw on Friday and see what she thinks.

Saw mw today. It is sciatica. She advised minimal walking, no pushing of pushchairs or supermarket trolleys, no lifting of ds, and no hoovering.
