Hi all,

I recently found out that I am pregnant with twins. It was…surprising.

I am only very early in pregnancy still, so naturally worrying about the pregnancy risks/miscarriage etc. And also, how on earth will we afford the childcare, keep sane, generally cope etc.

Anyone with twins want to offer me any words of wisdom they wish they’d known at this stage?

Thanks ☺️

Hi, congratulations! I am 33 weeks pregnant with twins. They are due to be born via c section in 3 weeks time! We found out at 7 weeks and it was a huge shock to find out!

How many weeks are you? And do you know what type of twins you are having? As that impacts they type of maternity care you will receive. I am expecting MCDA twins meaning they share a placenta but have their own sacs.

The twins trust website is great for information and do some course and lots of leaflets...twinstrust.org/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjvrGxMub-AIVFpBoCR0pggOoEAAYASAAEgKQxvD_BwE

There is also a twins thread on here...www.mumsnet.com/talk/pregnancy/4541912-twin-pregnancy?page=6&reply=117642591

Any specific question you have regarding your pregnancy?

Hi @Donimo , thanks for your reply. Nothing specific I want to ask really it’s just all very new to me!

I’m 6 weeks so found out quite early. They are DMCA twins. Is it normal to have a lot more coming and going pains with twins? I have all kinds of griping, pulling and sometimes slightly sharp pains and aches in different places around my lower abdomen throughout the day as well as round ligament pain. Telling myself my body is just creating extra room but I do worry, especially because my last pregnancy was a loss. I don’t remember having pains with my first (although that was years ago now).

All the best for the birth in 3 weeks - how exciting! 💕

Hi OP - congrats! I’m 6 months deep and your post really made me think about what I’ve learnt so here’s a list of all the things I wish i’d known:
you do not need two of everything, just the essential items (think cribs, change mats, the bare necessities!)

keeping babes in sync as much as possible is a sanity saver, we implemented this straightaway and it’s always suited our twins

you can bottle feed 2 babies at once in either a twin pillow or a bouncy chair. You will get so good at this!

every phase is so very temporary. This sounds so obvious but as a FTM I wish I’d told myself this more, it’s very easy to think holy shit this is my life forevermore when you’re on your millionth nappy of the day but I found from about 8 weeks time began to fly by

when they notice one another it’s truly the best thing in the world

your food shop/any errand you need to run once they’re here will now take you approx 4. Hours once everyone’s stopped you to have a nose!

it is HARD there’s no bearing around the bush there but my god we are so lucky. It’s amazing! Congratulations again xx

Congratulations! I have six month old twin boys. I found out around about this time last year and it made me smile reading your post and thinking back to that time when I found out.....what a shock! Best advice I can give....take one day at a time. Seems a bit simplistic but to be honest this mindset has got me through, especially in the times when your mind starts to worry and wander. As I said, were only 6 months in but it starting to get really fun now seeing the boys interact together. There's good days and bad days but take each day as it comes. I also found this helped me a lot when I was pregnant....the worry and the what ifs felt huge and if I allowed myself to think too hard about it I got overwhelmed. Just know you will cope and it will be great!
