Harmony test

Currently 9 weeks pregnant and considering opting to go private for the harmony test in the next week or 2. I think you need to be 10 weeks plus.

Does anyone have experience of this? Are they glad they did it?

Just wanting to gather pros and cons at the moment. I'm 33, with a high BMI (due to BMI I'd be deemed obese). Not sure if these are factors which increase my chances of something popping up on the results.

Would just love to hear from those who opted for it or even those who didn't, and their reasonings.

I’ve had it twice. My cousin has a dd with ds so for me it was knowing so we could prepare. It
also detects other things.

Also, knowing the gender early is fab x

That's what I'm thinking, I'd just like to give myself as much time as possible to mentally prepare, should the results show something. But I know some people seem very against it, but im just not sure why.

The gender would be an added bonus! Excited to find out

Yep I went for it, peace of mind was worth it for me. I’m 34 and had went through a MC and wanted the extra reassurance that baby was ok. I was 11+6 when I had it done. Results came back in a week. Worth every penny.

amummyy · 07/06/2022 21:17

I had it for free through the NHS just after my 12
week scan. I would advise to wait the 3 weeks in case they refer you for it anyway

Merryclaire · 08/06/2022 07:03

Same as PP, I waited until the combined test results in case I can’t back higher risk and was referred anyway. I came back low risk but still paid for the Panorama test as am 40 and know the combined test isn’t very accurate.

Originally I considered the Harmony test but went for the Panorama as it offered an extra microdeletions panel.

I had the Harmony test at 11 weeks as I was 38 and my midwife offered it to me.. test came back after a week with low risk.. baby now 10 weeks. I thought it was worth every penny just for that peace of mind, but the week wait was hard!!

I had Panorama (another brand of NIPT) at 11 weeks. It’s more accurate on screening than the combined test and it’s more accurate on sex than a scan plus you get to know a lot earlier. No brainer if you can afford it IMO.

fairgame84 · 09/06/2022 15:10

I had the iona at 16 weeks because I couldn't have the combined test and I wasn't reassured by my quad test.
It gave me the reassurance that I needed and stopped my anxiety. It cost £400 including a growth scan and I have no regrets.

Hi all, interested in the Panorama test. Where did you do it? I live in London. Thanks

EK81 · 14/02/2023 07:25

The nhs screen test is very accurate.

I'm not in London but I did mine through thisismynipt. They have clinics all over the uk.

EMcG3 · 14/02/2023 20:44

My attitude was to always wait an additional 2 weeks for the NIPT and not pay. Last baby unfortunately had Edwards and by the time it was confirmed, I was 17 weeks in. The NHS responds really well to issues picked up on antinatal testing but the whole process is, understandably, slow. I will do harmony next time now that I know this. Both the option of doing it and the option of not doing are good options, but I think it is worth flagging that if Harmony picked something serious up, you would probably be looking at termination at, say, 13 weeks instead of a handful of weeks later. Also, if you are more than 16 weeks, you can't do termination privately, only through the NHS which is, again, very fine, but again, is a bit of a wait.

IVFbeenverylucky · 14/02/2023 20:52

I have no experience of this issue at all, but am currently 8+5, and just wondered where people were doing Harmony (or similar). I'm London based - any recommendations? what's the cheapest anyone managed to get it for? (I'm not interested in an early scan or any counselling etc.)

Hatscats · 14/02/2023 21:39

If you’re combined screening is “high” then you’ll get it free, there’s also an option with my NHS trust to pay for it anyway at a lower price than private, I think it’s about £150.
