Hey guys I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant. I just accidentally ate a slice of bread that had a bit of mould on it on the side and I’m freaking out now! It wasn’t even out of date and it was in the fridge!! I don’t know what to do, I’m giving myself a bad headache because of this and I feel like I’m going mad. I just want to cry because I feel so bad and so guilty. It actually had a bit of green mould on it. Like how?!! It wasn’t even out of date! Anyone have any advice on what I can do? Will this harm the baby? It tasted normal but it freaking had mould on it. On one side. Oh god. I’ve texted my midwife but idk when she will reply. I feel absolutely fine yet but I only ate it half an hour ago. Please guys any advice would be really helpful! And please be honest. 🥺

It will not harm you or your baby at all.

and breathe... 🙂

gamerchick · 07/06/2022 10:28

Seriously OP, think of penicillin. What do you think that's made out of?

It's fine, stop stressing.

taylorsdoinapart · 07/06/2022 10:29

It'll be fine - don't even give it another thought.

MissBPotter · 07/06/2022 10:33

It’s fine. Relax, take some deep breaths and have a cup of tea or whatever. From this post you seem like you have a lot of anxiety so see if there are measures you can take to reduce it eg relaxation, yoga etc

dreamerkr · 07/06/2022 10:35

I started panicking when I realised and I still want to cry. I can’t believe I did something so stupid. Thank you so much guys :(

You will be fine.

ArtVandalay · 07/06/2022 10:37

Calm down. You’re completely over-reacting. It’s fine.

AquaticSewingMachine · 07/06/2022 10:38

It's a perfectly normal and harmless thing to do. Calm down. You are going to have a long pregnancy if you get this fraught over everything.

Your baby is not going to be damaged by you eating normal foods.

Notmytiep · 07/06/2022 10:38

I did the same when I was pregnant, you'll be fine love.

RosieRoww · 07/06/2022 10:38

You will be fine, no worries.

TrashyPanda · 07/06/2022 10:41

You are fine!

you gave yourself a fright, but don’t worry. It’s a natural reaction when you think you’ve done something bad. You and your baby are both just fine.

can you do something nice to make yourself feel a wee bit better?

Juno231 · 07/06/2022 10:41

christ 😂

dreamerkr · 07/06/2022 10:42

Thank you so much guys. I have a history of recurrent miscarriage which is why I’m freaking out so badly now. I get stressed about the smallest pains and I definitely do need to calm myself down. I’m so sorry if this was a stupid question guys but thank you so much for your reassurance. ❤️

Should I call my GP about it?

Your stomach acid will stop it dead so please don't worry. I have 2 DC. At various stages during my pregnancies I have flapped about: eating a tuna sandwich (too much vitamin A?), drinking a McDonalds milkshake (possible listeria), alcohol (had a baileys coffee before I realised I was expecting).

Keep telling yourself that women were pregnant before current food guidance on pregnancy (in other European countries they have different rules to the UK anyway) and that babies were hardy enough to survive living in caves and medieval huts. You and baby will be fine. but why were you keeping your bread in the fridge?

Should I call my GP about it?

No need OP.

PineappleWilson · 07/06/2022 10:46

No, there's no need to speak to your GP unless you want to chat to then about ways to talk yourself down if you're feeling concerns rising.

NerrSnerr · 07/06/2022 10:46

Please listen to everyone. You don't need to do anything. Don't call your GP. Nothing will happen. You will be fine.

Garman · 07/06/2022 10:47

Don't call your gp about it, what are they going to do only tell you its fine. Speak to someone about the anxiety though if you like.

Also why was your bread in the fridge? Just curious 😄

dreamerkr · 07/06/2022 10:49

Thank you so much guys! And I don’t know why it was in the fridge :( usually it’s not but my husband probably put it in there last night. Thanks so much for your reassurance!

Should I call my GP about it?

God no. There is absolutely zero wrong with mouldy bread, use common sense.

dreamerkr · 07/06/2022 11:02

I’m sorry but how would I know if there’s something wrong with it or not? I just started panicking because I’ve had 3-4 miscarriages and this is the furthest I’ve gotten in any pregnancy. I’m sorry if this was a dumb question

OP posts:
Garman · 07/06/2022 11:11

But there's not going to be anything wrong after one bite of mouldy bread, it won't do anything.

RosieRoww · 07/06/2022 11:20

OP you will be fine, stomach is having a strong acids to deal with such a things, the panicking and stressing makes you more harm, believe me.

HoppingPavlova · 07/06/2022 11:23

Common sense? You don’t get sick from eating a mouldy piece of bread, so why would it be any different in pregnancy? There is zero correlation between mouldy bread and miscarriage so the fact you have had several prior has nothing to do with mouldy bread.

GP’s, as with all healthcare professionals, have enough to deal with without this sort of carry on.
