I am 37 weeks, my nipples started getting really dry/crusty a few weeks back. One in particular.

The crust sort of flaked off for most of it, however the bottom half of my nipple is still crust covered to the point where they look scabby. I've gently tried peeling like with the other crust but firstly it makes me want to puke but secondly it just didn't budge.

Any advice?

And it's not colostrum? Is it yellow liquid which has dried.

You could try massaging something like Bio Oil in a couple of times a day to soften the skin and loosen the flakes. If you choose to breastfeed when your baby arrives, make sure it's properly washed off. If you plan to BF you could try something like Lansinoh nipple cream which is very moisturising and doesn't need to be washed off before feeds.

It could be a yeast infection. I have these in the past and also under my breasts which are rather pendulous unfortunately . Contact the gp .

Another vote for colostrum. It dries into a crusty kind of coating on the nipple near the end of pregnancy. Warm water and gentle rubbing with a flannel should get rid of it.

Agree it's likely colostrum. If it's only leaking in tiny amounts then you probably won't notice any wetness and it'll just dry into a yellowish crust. I had exactly the same thing. Wash off gently with warm water.

On the other hand, if there's any itchiness, redness or an unusual smell than speak to your GP as it might be thrush. Colostrum is much more likely though!
