Will I get more appointments because of my age...?

I'm not expecting any additional appointments because I had two losses, but I am 43 now. Do you think the midwives will throw any extra appointments in?

Midwife appointments no, I'm going to be 41 soon and the additional appointments are consultant appointments. Growth scans at 28, 32 and 36 weeks. Then I think an initial appointment due to age. I've had extra with the consultant for other reasons. It will also depend on any other risk factors.

I can only talk about my health board but here the midwife that you speak to at your dating scan decides if you should be referred to a consultant, and if so a consultant will review your case and decide if you need additional scans and consultant appointments. I believe age over 40 is one of the things that causes you to be referred.

Whether you get extra midwife appointments depends on what your community midwife thinks, too. Normally you're seen every fourth week in the second and third trimester but I'm seen every fortnight due to increased risks (not aged related).

As PPs have suggested, it seems to vary by NHS trust. I'm 42 and I'm getting an extra midwife appt because it's my first baby, and had one consultant appt because of my age (and another for other reasons). I also get growth scans (due to maternal age) at 32, 36 and 40 weeks. I think this was all explained to me at my booking in.

I had a baby at 43 in 2020. No extra midwife appointments (but it was early Covid times) growth scans at 28, 32, and 36 weeks an appointment to see the consultant after first growth scan who basically said I was fine and didn't need to see me again but induced at 40 weeks, wasn't allowed to go a day over.

Thanks everyone. Ok, I'll see what midwife says at booking appointment.
