If you are 39 weeks on 22nd June, you are about 31 weeks now? Still plenty of time for baby to move!

I discussed my birth plan at my 34 week appointment so if still transverse I imagine that's when they'll give you options.

From what I read (my baby was transverse until 33 weeks so was mentally preparing) you could expect a C-section at 37 weeks and maybe a hospital stay from 35 weeks, but this might be dependent on a lot of personal circumstances and trust policy.

@DottieDe I'm 37weeks x

Hey hun! I'm booked in for a c-section next week (always was going to be) and my baby was transverse until just last week before deciding to move in to the breach position for a couple of days then moving head down, so he's left it pretty late! But there was no talk of them bringing it forwards or anything even when he was still transverse at 36 weeks. They said the main 'risk' is cord prolapse which Im assuming is what you're worried about but they said the risk of that is very low because you'd know you were in Labour before that could happen and you'd have time to get to the hospital and just have a planned emergency c-section x

@DottieDe I'm 37weeks x

Sorry I thought you meant July for no reason but pregnancy brain😅

Maybe what I read wasn't UK specific as clearly I'm wrong given they've let you go to your due date! Sorry!

DS was an unstable transverse lie, and I was taken in at 37 weeks, just in case, and had the ELCS at 38 weeks (brought forward from 39 weeks).

Passanotherjaffacake · 06/06/2022 06:24

my baby is transverse lie as well, early section for several aggravating factors (placenta previa and p-prom). At that late stage in pregnancy OP I would expect they will bring it a bit earlier for you. They also might want you in hospital for the week beforehand (sympathy if this does happen, I have been in for 5 weeks with my issues!)

Lissie1986 · 06/06/2022 07:57

@Passanotherjaffacake omg 5 weeks! I'm so sorry your going through that.. isit the placenta parava? Your in the rigjt place though at least.. nomatter how horrible it is your little one qill be so worth all that stay xxx At the 20week scan they found this with me and was told atn32 weeks it was high, and then at last weeks scan they told me it was high but still slightly covering! So confused about that one, also I have gestational diabetes, amd now baby is transverse lie. I have appointment with consultant today too apart of me is hoping and another part is not wanting it to happen so soon I had an emergency c sec last year with my daughter so I know what to expect but everyone tells me elected is completely diff x

@NoWordForFluffy what is unstable transverse lie? I have consultant appointment today I don't know what to expect I feel I should get myself partially ready for them to say we will bring him today or whatever 🤔 I somewhat want them to say it but I don't lol as mentioned below image gestational diabetes and they said last week something about placenta classed as high but still partially covering n now transverse lie lol x

Unstable is where there is risk of cord prolapse if your waters break, I think. It's why I was taken in at 37 weeks, so I was already in hospital if they did break. (I was told to hit the alarm and put my bum in the air - on my back - to try to keep baby off the cord if my waters did go.)

RoseValleyRambles · 06/06/2022 08:50

They'll probably bring you forward to 37/38 weeks, and may suggest you come in for monitoring if you live very fat from the hospital. We have a footling breech and consultant wants him out week 37.

Passanotherjaffacake · 06/06/2022 10:17

My placenta previa is complete but they are still worried about cord prolapse and another (really big) bleed if my waters full go. I had a bleed at 31 weeks so have been in since then and have to stay until delivery. I think with my placenta being where it is baby can’t actually get down to engage but if he did it would be fairly dangerous.

suspect they might well admit you OP but probably not for long as baby is basically ready. After 36 weeks they don’t expect baby to need NICU unless there is an issue and 37 weeks is term so they likely won’t hang about.

RebeccaCloud9 · 06/06/2022 10:31

I have had 2 previous c sections and currently have placenta previa (but only 22 weeks so hoping it grows out the way!) I have been told they will try and wait until 39 weeks in as many cases as possible due to lung development - apparently even in those 2 weeks between 37 and 39 the risk of postnatal lung care needed in csec babies dramatically reduces.

Obviously every case is different (and every NHS trust?), and they will either keep you in or csec early if totally necessary, but they will be aiming for that baby to stay in until 39 weeks if possible/safe.
