I'm 28+2 and have an anterior placenta unlike my previous pregnancy. For the last week my baby has been moving around what feels like constantly. If I take my 16 month old for a walk in the pram, I get really strong kicks and pressure. I'm not very active other than looking after DD, house work and my job so walking a mile or two with the pram is the probably the most active I get and baby seems to go crazy in there! I never felt baby when I was moving around before, it was only when laying and sitting still so to constantly feel it now, seems odd. If it's not rolling or kicking, I get a constant tapping (not hiccups as too fast) I called my maternity unit last week as was worried about excess movement and baby being in distress, the MW who triaged me wasn't bothered at all and said only contact us if you get reduced movement. I also told my MW on Wednesday about the amount of movement I was getting, again she didn't really say anything. Is this normal!? With my DD she was active at the usual times, eating, laying down, relaxing etc but I didn't feel her this much. It's actually difficult to sleep sometimes because baby is moving around so much. Has anybody else experienced this?

Hi, I'm also 28+2 today. Some days u feel my baby a lot more than other days. Truth be told I'm probably still learning his 'pattern'.

You'd be right in thinking that too much movement can be a sign that the baby us distressed and I'd be annoyed that the professionals aren't taking your concerns more seriously.

It might be that you just have a very active baby, HOWEVER you should ALWAYS get checked out if you are worried. Maternal instinct counts for so much more than a lot of people (even professionals) realise.

Hope everything is okay!

Both my DC have been incredibly active. I remember being surprised at antenatal classes when one woman said she only felt her baby every fee hours as I've never really gone more than 15 mins without feeling either of mine! My stomach is always moving and rippling with bits sticking out and if I wake up in the night there's usually a party going on in there.

If you're worried then I would insist on being checked, but you might just have a very active baby!

DD was very lazy once she was born though so hoping this one will be the same Grin

Thanks for the replies. I think I am just confused when a couple of weeks ago I got told excess movement can be a concern, then to be told it's not. I have a growth scan in 10 days that may put my mind at rest, but if I can't wait and feel it's getting worse, I think I'm just going to go down to unit. Perhaps I'm just comparing it to previous pregnancy, baby was active but not like this one! She was very active once born though (still is!) so I am hoping like you PP that this one won't be 😁😂

I'm 27+3, also with an anterior placenta and one very active baby. I was in the hospital for monitoring on Monday for something else and all was fine, but similarly to you I've been surprised. Last pregnancy was seven years ago and posterior placenta, don't remember that one being as active. The midwife had to kind of pin her in place just the heartbeat. I'd also insist on going in, if you're worried.

Thanks - that's reassuring but yes think I'm just going to go and ask for some monitoring as up until the last week I was only getting movement when I was lay still or after eating.

My baby moved constantly from about 25 ish weeks, now 34w. Like @Hugasauras I was astonished when someone at antenatal class said they only felt their baby a couple of times a day. She moves at least every five minutes.

She does have bursts of extra movement, and has managed twice to spend the best part of 12 hours wriggling herself up to breech position (her hiccups go from deep in my pelvis to up around my diaphragm/ribs) before promptly heading back down into my pelvis. It’s extremely uncomfortable and has made me vomit.

I had a chat with my midwife about it and she said they would only really be concerned if she was moving “frantically”. They put me on a monitor this week as the most recent episode of turning herself around was last weekend, and they smiled and sent me away after 20 minutes with “she’s a healthy but wriggly baby”.
