Can someone help me please, I have got covid at 23 weeks pregnant. Can someone please reassure me that my baby will be ok ? Or will this pass to them. Also does anyone know what I have to do, do I phone my midwife or just isolate as normal ?

I think the best thing to do is ring your GP/ midwife.

You will probably both be absolutely fine, but it depends on a lot of things such as any underlying conditions, whether you're vaccinated, how your body copes with the virus etc. - so no one on here can really give you any solid advice.

Tell a midwife/ medical professional and see what they advise.

I had covid at 8 weeks, I spoke to midwives who couldn’t be less bothered, so don’t worry.

unless you are high risk preg or high risk from severe complications of covid you and baby will 100% be fine.

fir reassurance call you midwife but please don’t worry!

i actually caught covid on the pregnancy ward when I was admitted for a week with hyperemesis. 26 weeks now and all good

take care and drink plenty

@onelittlefrog I am fully vaccinated, I've had 3 vaccines so I'm hoping that's a good thing aswell. Honestly I don't feel unwell tbh the only thing was aching legs and sweating but other than that I'm absolutely fine. I'm just so worried it's going to harm my baby

@Ginfilledcats Thank you for this. Sounds dramatic but I can't stop crying worrying about the baby ☹️☹️ hopefully everything will be ok, no one else in my house has it etc so I'm like I don't even understand how I got it but thank you xxx

I had Covid in march at 20 weeks. I was so scared, but I had a really great phone call with a midwife from Tommy's (would recommend looking at their website). She really reassured me as they are a research centre and have done a lot of research into Covid and pregnancy.
The main points were:

  • if you've had at least two vaccines then there should be no reason you need to be admitted to hospital, the mum's they'd seen admitted had either no vaccine or just the first dose.
  • they're more concerned when you're in the third trimester as the baby is bigger then so it's already more difficult to breath from that
  • they have done a lot of research into Covid and fetal abnormalities and found absolutely NO connection whatsoever - so please stay away from any Google websites suggesting this!

She recommended staying well hydrated, keeping an eye on my temperature and also to keep moving to keep blood flowing. She also recommended I buy an oximeter which I did, just to keep an eye on oxygen levels. If you are ever worried though then call your maternity unit and chat with them.
I recovered fine and had a scan after the Covid had gone and the baby is doing great at almost 30 weeks now, no issues detected whatsoever 🥰
I hope you feel better soon xx

@babybump1x why don't you just call your midwife and ask what they want you to do?

You're fully vaccinated. You don't feel unwell. Stop worrying. It's a virus. Paracetamol if you have a fever, fluids, rest if unwell.

There's an identical thread literally 4 threads down about this.

babybump1x · 03/06/2022 10:48

@Regenbogen22 okay, sorry I didn't see the other thread, I just posted because I was in a panic x

Please don't apologise for panicking, it's natural - you're just thinking of the safety of your baby like any good mum would!
I did contact my community midwife though to be honest she wasn't much help. She just said keep hydrated and keep moving, which was why I ended up calling Tommy's.
I've just looked at the Tommy's website again and here is what they say:

Current evidence suggests:

• if you have the virus, it is unlikely to cause problems with your baby’s development, and there have been no reports of this so far
• if you have the virus in early pregnancy there is no evidence to suggest that COVID-19 infection increases the chance of a miscarriage
• Passing of COVID-19 from a woman to her baby during pregnancy or childbirth (vertical transmission) seems to be uncommon

It's definitely better that you have it now than in your third trimester!
I think Tommy's may be closed for the bank holiday (or at least I know the one in Manchester is), but if you feel you need any reassurance I would definitely give them a call and they are always more than happy to reassure mum's

I had covid at 12 weeks and I was fine. Just tired and sinusitis no issues with baby.

babybump1x · 03/06/2022 11:57

@Bubbles021 thank you so much, you've been a god send today, you've calmed me right down about it all 💕 it's also a bank holiday here so I'll give them a call on Monday. Do u think I should just not bother phoning my midwife then? X

I would send her a text at least so she's aware, she may also have some advice or reassurance she can provide 😊

You should tell your midwife so that its on your records. I’m 19 weeks and tested positive 3 days ago, also have asthma and am an ‘older’ mum so although I’m usually v fit and healthy, I’m classed as more vulnerable. I emailed my midwife and she called me, she said to keep an eye on my oxygen levels which I had been doing anyway as I have a smart watch. I have felt lousy but so far it doesn’t feel v serious, like most fully vaccinated people say, like a heavy cold.

Your baby will be fine.
