Hi can someone please help? I got offered a new job starting on Tuesday.

I’m currently 2-3 weeks on clear blue (not the best timing I know)
would I still be eligible for maternity leave & pay?

Everyone is eligible for maternity leave, and with regards to pay if you check the government website it will help you work out based on when you are starting work and what your earnings are.

@tealandteal what if you’re self employed will you still be eligible for maternity leave & be able to return back to work as normal with the company you work for?

I don’t know much about self employment but if your work for a company are you still self employed?

pumpkinmash · 01/06/2022 22:49

If you're self employed you don't have a job with a company to go back to... what's the actual situation?

You won't qualify for maternity pay (although if you're self employed that's not a thing anyway), but you may qualify for Maternity Allowance - Google will take you to the government website that explains how to qualify.

Are you self-employed or employed?

amywhattodo · 01/06/2022 23:10

@midairchallenger @pumpkinmash @tealandteal Classed as self employed but working for a company

@tealandteal I checked online and even if I were employed I don’t think I’d be eligible for statutory maternity pay, although early on in pregnancy I think I would have had to start work in April ?

You'll be eligible for maternity allowance going from SE straight into employment. It's the same as SMP minus the six weeks at 90%. It's the same as you would get staying self-employed anyway.

dementedpixie · 01/06/2022 23:28

It would be maternity allowance you would claim. Are you sure you're self employed as you sound like you might be an employee?
