Obese (BMI 37) and c section

Hello,

I'm having a c section in November and I'm a bit worried as I am obese and I know that's a risk that may cause maternal death so was just wondering if other plus side ladies have had c sections and are ok.

Thank you

Yup, totally fine, I’m still here.

Me too, all good, they were great with me and I was up and about the next morning, I'm sure you will be fine x

I am still alive. They give you a really cool dressing as well that had a little machine in it that sucks all the moisture out so your scar will heal really nicely and quickly.

Yup. BMI 38 at booking. God only knows what it was by the time I gave birth.

Due to my BMI, there were a couple different things than there normally would be. First, I got a sticky piece of plastic (Traxi retractor) to retract my overhang back during the operation. Second, my head was propped up on a wedge, so that my airway was better accessible.

Unfortunately PICO dressings (the one ribnsaucy refers to) aren't commonly used. Or at least they aren't readily available at my trust (only in orthopaedics). I wish I'd had one though. My blasted wound still isn't fully healed nearly 12 weeks postpartum.

I didn't get a pico dressing and my scar healed well in a short time, I'm significantly bigger than you too. All went smoothly for me.

Good luck!

3 day labour and ended up in emergency C section. All was absolutely fine. Healed well. You will be fine I’m sure! Good luck and congratulations xx
