Uti worrying me

So last week I was away in Spain and started getting an urge to wee (even more than usual) and these sharp, short pains on my knicker line that felt like tightening. Went off to local hospital who diagnosed a water infection and gave me a one dose antibiotic. Had no pains since but cloudy urine still. Last night those same pains came back, I called the gp today who prescribed nitrofurantoin and I dropped off a urine sample for them to send off.
What's worrying me is the gp told me that back on March I had bacteria in my urine but they didn't do nothing because it didn't contain any white blood cells? Or something like that.

Since I came back from holiday I had a letter come in the post from the hospital who had made me an appointment for urine and blood tests because my last sample was high for something (the appointment isn't for another two weeks though) So my last sample at hospital on 3rd may has thrown up something.
I'm worrying because to me it seems this infection has been simmering away since back in March ! The first lot of antibiotics I received in Spain didn't shift it so I'm worrying it's something more serious.

Why would they order bloods alongside urine tests does anyone know ?

Are you takeng the Nitrofurantoin? It should be three days worth.
They may have not seen any nitrites( not white blood cells, they are common and in the absence of symptoms you would not necessarily treat).
However, this has been going on a while and UTIs should be treated on the basis of symptoms. Nitrofurantoin is the best antibiotic for UTIs.
Have you any burning or obvious blood in your urine. Not wrong to send off a sample but it should be followed up with a review ofresults and a review of your symptoms.
Hope it clears up soon.

UTIs can be common in pregnancy and taken seriously but it sounds like you have had the right management.
Don't worry too much about it. Just get the tests done. You are being treated appropriately.

@Oneearringlost hi, no no blood in urine or burning when urinating. If it wasn't for the pains and cloudy urine I'm getting I would be none the wiser to be honest ! I've worried myself as I saw on a thread from googling women saying utis can cause premature labour !! Is this if it turns into a kidney infection?
I've no fever or anything so not worried about that, it's just that it been simmering away that's bothering me too.
Do you know why they're doing bloods alongside a urine sample ? I'm not sure what that would be for ?

Best just to go along to the hospital appt and ask them there. I always write down specific questions in advance so I don't forget to ask....which often happens when clinics are full and staff are rushed.

jimmy eat.
They are probably just checking your infection and inflammatory markers and maybe you full blood count and iron levels to make sure you are not anaemia.
Hope you are feeling better
