Is anyone else in the same boat? I can't have the jab for medical reasons which I've always been ok with. Had covid was fine. But I've recently found out I'm pregnant again. Im now 8 weeks and I'm just worried what happens if I catch it say from the third trimester? Is it fatal? Really worried now.

I wasn't in the 3rd trimester but I did catch covid at 17 weeks. It was milder than a cold that I'd had just weeks prior. Main symptom was a runny nose. I only tested because a colleague I'd been working with tested positive first

Trinacham · 01/06/2022 17:49

this was unvaccinated

Trinacham · 01/06/2022 17:50

it's not necessarily bad. A colleague was unvaccinated and got it very close to her due date. I think she was quite unwell but she and baby were fine overall

miltonj · 01/06/2022 17:55

Think about all the women who were pregnant during the first wave when there was no vaccine at all. They were fine! Smile

VanillaIce1 · 01/06/2022 18:05

Thank you. It's just the midwife was saying I could end up in a coma or possibly dying which obviously you can imagine how panicked it left me.

@VanillaIce1 that’s awful of her to make you so worried when you can’t have it due to medical reasons. I would certainly take precautions with mask wearing whilst pregnant in your situation, but she really shouldn’t have scared you like that!

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 01/06/2022 18:13

is your medical reason due to an ongoing condition? If so you cuisinant should be scale to side, there are really very free conditions that mean no vaccine not there are so many to choose from

I had people telling me the same (when at the beginning the midwife was implying there wasn't enough research on pregnant women having it, they soon changed their mind!) When you don't have a choice, that's especially not fair to say that to you!

Midwives tried to scaremonger me too.
I caught Covid around week 18 - a bit of cough, headache, tiredness and loss of smell.

erm.. not all of them were I don’t think

Well, they weren’t all fine, but I’m sure OP will be. I would suggest talking to your doctor to see whether anything has moved on wrt vaccination or whether there is any other advice.

Ask to change your midwife !

Teael · 01/06/2022 18:37

@miltonj No they weren't!

Op, I would discuss the risk/benefit in detail with your consultants- this isn't a decision to be made lightly, there was a time with itu was full of pregnant women.

There are so few things that are absolute contraindications to all covid vaccines, so you're an unusual case. Your consultant for your medical condition, and your obstetrician should be able to advise better than here.

By and large, yes we were. There was not a significant enough rise in miscarriage or still birth to be able to attribute it directly to lack of vaccine/the covid virus. Staff shortages and women being afraid to access services/attend appointments can't have helped though.

Women died

miltonj · 02/06/2022 15:33

Yes people died. Women who were pregnant and women who weren't. Men too. I didn't enjoy having covid whilist pregnant obviously, and it may have been worse if I was completely unvaxxed. Who knows. But the risk to the OP and her baby is small, and not midwives nor anyone else should be using such extreme language to attempt to persuade her.
