Big belly on anomaly scan

Had my scan today at 21 weeks. Everything looking normal but the abdominal circumference was above the 95th percentile. She said this could either mean big baby or gestational diabetes. I am high risk for this anyway due to pcos and already had a gtt booked in and also growth scans.
Does this mean it's most likely that do you think? I'd have thought if big baby surely everything else would be measuring big but it's only her belly
Any experiences I'd love to hear
Thanks

These are the measurements - do they all look okay? Apart from the abdominal one obviously as I know that ones the high end.
I was told all was fine otherwise and still nothing to worry about with the big belly

Watching with interest as I’ve got pretty much identical results to you OP, but all I’ve been told is “baby has a big squishy tummy”

didnt Realise it could mean something bad :(

Mine looked exactly the same at that stage and again at subsequent growth scans. Also have PCOS so had multiple GTT and Hba1 (I think that's what they called it!) To screen for GD and they were always negative. I was induced on my due date as they were concerned he'd be massive, he was 8lb13 born at 40+1 so a nice size but not enormous, despite his abdominal circumference being off the chart by 36 weeks! (And he Certainly didn't look out of proportion when born) Try not to worry, it's definitely not a definitive test for anything be wrong

It might not mean anything to be honest , as I said the scanner wasn't concerned and the midwife wasn't at all either afterwards. she just told me what I already knew in regards to the gtt test I have to do.
Was everything else okay with your scan?

It's good to know you have pcos too but was negative for gestational diabetes ! Once she said it could mean that I kind of thought well that's it then isn't it as I was already high risk for it ! My bmi is healthy otherwise it's just the pcos. But I could cut down on the Haribo I suppose lol
Your baby was a nice weight then !

Yes, all my scans and midwife checks have been fine. Just “tummy is 98%”

head is slightly below average which I’m hoping stays the same! Not sure I want to attempt to push out a 98% head!

My first had ‘big belly’ on scan and they also worried about gestational diabetes but all turned out to be fine!

Bramblecrumble21 · 31/05/2022 07:44

Late in my pregnancy I had a scan (after abnormal fundal length graph) which showed just under 95th percentile abdomen. However the other measuments were slightly bigger than average. The Dr said over 95 I'd go for a gd test. But I didn't have any rush factors. Otherwise drs like a big tummy as it means more fat reserves after birth. Not long after I gave birth to an average weight baby (7lbs) but at 36 weeks. Good luck with your diabetes test.

Risk not rush

HelloViroids · 31/05/2022 07:49

If you do have gestational diabetes, it will be fine as long as it’s well managed - the risk of GD is it being undiagnosed late into the pregnancy. So if you do have it then the fact that they might have spotted it early is great!

Thank you for the recent replies. I'm not too worried to be honest as the scanner didn't seem concerned and she was very thorough I think if it was an issue she'd have said there and then. They have to don't they?
Obviously I don't want to have gestational diabetes, but I might not anyway ! No point worrying about it as I won't know until the test. I don't think it's a big baby thing though as her other measurements aren't as big as the abdomen one ! Unless she catches up!
