Losing weight in pregnancy - should I be worried?

Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I'm now 16 weeks and have lot a lot of weight since becoming pregnant (I* *was quite overweight to start with). I don't weigh myself so not sure how much but it's noticeable and clothes which didn't fit are now baggy.

I'm not sure whether I should be worried or not. I had bad nausea in early pregnancy (not so bad that I was being sick but just constantly feeling a bit queasy). It's got a bit better though I still get it on and off but basically I have no appetite most of the time. I'm tired and can't be bothered cooking at night so I just make a quick dinner for my young DC and then eat the remains off his plate and fall asleep. I take pregnancy vitamins and try to eat at least an apple and some cheese every day but it's hard because I'm not hungry most of the time and have no motivation to cook proper meals at all. I'll batch cook and freeze meals for DC, but then only defrost a portion for him because I don't feel like eating anything at all. I'm happy with a slice of toast and marmite for lunch most of the time. I'm not even particularly hungry for biscuits or junk food or anything like that. The only food I actually want to eat tends to be really salty stuff. I don't remember this happening with my DC - if anything, I remember being hungrier! - so I'm not sure whether it's something I should be concerned about or not or whether it will pass.

Hi, I was overweight when I fell pregnant. I also had a significantly reduced appetite. I was sick or nauseous, just not hungry. The midwife told me it was common in women who are overweight to start with. She recounted some women who had lost 2/3 stones.

I gained 14Ib through my whole pregnancy and most of that was in the last 2 / 3 months. Within a week of having the baby that 14Ib was off and I lost another 14Ib in the next month. I again was told this is normal as I was otherwise well.

I'd say if you're feeling well (out with normal preggo stuff) there's probably nothing to worry about. But, if you are concerned speak to your midwife.

Thanks @anotherminiadventure - good to know it's not necessarily unusual!

I was the same, and not drinking alcohol helped too. I was lighter after deliver than ore pregnancy with DTs.

I think it depends why you are losing the weight.

I lost weight because I had a high BMI to start and developed a much healthier diet with less sugar and more veg while pregnant.

If you are losing weight because you are not eating enough calories and you're being sick then it needs watching because you may find yourself deficient in vitamins/minerals which will make you feel poorly.

The baby will take what it needs from you, so if you are not getting enough then you'll feel poorly, baby will generally be fine.
