Extreme fatigue and nausea 7 weeks

Dear mums, this is my second pregnancy and I'm looking for some reassurance..I had some fleeting nausea in first pregnancy but that was its. I'm really scared since for the past two days I feel so exhausted as if I've been hit by a bus. I haven't showered in 2 days ans have just been in bed. In addition I am nauseous so can't eat. Is this unusual to feel this kind of exhaustion? I've read about mum's having to take naps but I feel this is something else since I literally can't do anything. Please help. X

@TiaAra feeling the same way as you. I must admit that I feel so tired (was asleep at 9.30pm last night) and the nausea is bad. Hadn't been sick but they thought of any food makes me feel it. I have some sickness wristbands arriving today from amazon which I used in my first pregnancy and they took all the nausea away.
I have a six year old and three years ago I had a mc and a mmc, I didn't have any of this with the mc's which makes me feel better :)
Ginger biscuits and drinking lots of water does take the edge off though.

@winsones thank you for writing x. It helps to feel supported by others going through the same things - I'm sorry to hear of the mc :( I will try the bands and see if they help. On the exhaustion though is mine unusual - let alone sleeping early and taking naps all I have done since yesterday is be in bed. I have joint ache and feel so wiped out that I literally can't do anything. I wish someone could tell me that that's perfectly normal :(

I was like this except I kept being sick as well. It is normal. I found the exhaustion eased in the second trimester. I have never been so tired in all my life as I was in the first trimester.

Try to make sure you're drinking plenty and try to eat plenty of protein and slow release carbs.

It is not normal but a lot of women do get these symptoms. If you are really struggling to keep any food or drink down you need to get help. Join us on the hyperemersis support.

I am also really struggling with the tiredness. You are not at all alone.

Completely normal. I used to fall asleep when I got home from work.

Iv had the exact same feeling started at week 6. I explained it too people as being hit by a bus also!! From the moment I woke up. I ended up on sickness tabs for the sickness and nausea. And with the tiredness I was just constantly feeling like sleeping I had naps and was going to bed super early. I was signed off work for 3 weeks coz I struggled. Now at 11+3 I'm finally starting to feel better and more like myself. Still sleeping early but not napping and waking up feeling like Iv been hit by a bus! But taking it easy and resting up for a few weeks really helped. It's my first pregnancy tho so I have no other children. So I guess I was lucky I had the chance to just do nothing and rest up. Harder for some one with children etc....

@candyflossxox thanks for your reassurance. I feel light at the end of the tunnel though doing this for another few weeks sounds unimaginable. The nausea comes and goes its primarily the relentless exhaustion. It's not just that I sleep early and need to take a few naps It's a feeling of constant lack of energy from morning to night :( I can't play with my toddler or help out at home. I also feel light headed from time to time and like I need to sit down else I might black out.

Hi mums, just picking this back up. I'm at week 11 now (just entering) and the nausea seems to have worsened. Is it typical for it to peak around now? I had a miraculous week of no tiredness but its come back and relentless. Any chance in your experience this will end soon? Its really affecting my mental health :(

Have you seen a doctor?

They should be able to prescribe something to help with the sickness

Sounds like HG, I found being stressed / tired made the sickness / nausea worse. If I did too much one day I then paid for it the next day and would spend most of the day in bed.

Guessing they checked our iron levels at 8 weeks so that shouldn’t be it. It might be a peak in hormones and I found I always had one around 16 weeks too.

The more you stress the worse the symptoms, look into hypnobirthing. I never used it for birthing as such but more for calming myself down. Have you tried peppermint sweets, there’s some with b6 added in them. A deficiency in b6 has been shown to increase nausea, some HG medication now has this added in.

It completely sucks and so unfair when lots of other women never experience this. Hang in there, it will all be worth it.

Also forgot to add, it’s worth looking for triggers. I had a friend who when they ate onions then felt sick for a few days. You body is more sensitive than normal

@Applegreenb thanks so much for writing back. I have been under a lot of stress lately with work and also have a toddler so its not been the most peaceful time so you are right it is getting exacerbated by stress - I was on holiday 2 weeks ago and strangely that week had none of this which is so interesting, or could just have been coincidence. Do you know if one can use OTC nausea medication (which i have at home). I have been chasing my midwife for the results of the bloods taken 1.5 week ago as i dont have htem yet so not clear on the iron and how that is. Did yours go on till week 16 then? I thought i'd be out of the woods by now but it appears to only have gotten worse - i havent actually been sick yet but over last 48 hours almost was 2-3 times and stifled it. Its really horrible :(

Hi guys! I’m looking for a bit of reassurance as this is my first pregnancy and I am worried sick 24/7 that something is going to happen. I’ve had sore boobs and have been really tired for the past two weeks with morning sickness just starting this week but it’s manageable. For the past 2-3 days I have had a small amount of light brown discharge and this coupled with my boobs all of a sudden not being sore has me stressing! Is this normal? T

@TiaAra my HG was extreme and I was in hospital for fluids with each pregnancy as I could puke a few times in an hour. However daily nausea is just as bad in my book!

My HG lasted the whole 9 months of pregnancy but it definitely got better post 20 weeks.

Attached is the medication ladder, if you ring the GP they probably start you on cyclizine. Watch out they stop you being sick but they don’t take the nausea away completely.

There also a new drug combination that’s safe to take and lots of women have had good feedback on it. Xonvea (it’s an antihistamine with b6 combined)

Thank you @bcharl i'm sorry for what you went through. I havent been sick yet but past two days have had to stifle vomiting a few times so it oddly seems to be on the up rather than waning (im week 11). I will get on the case to get meds from GP. Did you by any chance have body ache and fatigue to accompany. As if the nausea wasnt bad enough i've had joint ache and fatigue (I can sleep 12 hours and not feel any better in the am). My bloods just came back - all normal (except my MCV which is just a shade off the lower end of normal range - Midwife said nothing at all to worry about and Neutrophils just a shade (0.1) above higher range which again she said nothing to worry about as htey get naturally elevated during pregnancy). Super reassured but I feel so horrible I cant shake the feeling something is very wrong.

Hi everyone currently 8 weeks pregnant with twins this is my 3rd pregnancy and never suffered with nausea so bad to the point I can’t even nibble a biscuit only actually been sick a couple of times. Any advice on how I can help at home before I call my midwife or gp thank you

Report
TiaAra · 30/06/2022 13:54

@Lesleyannie im sorry to hear that. My midwife has just told me its best to contact GP as they can prescribe pregnancy safe medication. She assured me its normal and can easily go up to 14 weeks (hopefully for most of us it goes away after that). I'd recommend you contact your GP to get meds which is what I'm going to do. In terms of home remedy chewing fennel seeds, smelling and chewing on a piece of ginger both really help. Also fresh air, my nausea goes down when I crack the window, breathe fresh air. Hope you feel better soon.

I had bad fatigue and nausea from about week 6-10. I found eating little and often helped as the nausea just got worse if I didn't eat. However would have struggled to eat anything without DH making me food during that time as the smell of most food made my stomach churn and I was too exhausted to face cooking most of the time. Only got through the fatigue by working at home although I got very little done at work or home over that period. Luckily I had a huge improvement in symptoms overnight at around 10w (and felt even better around 13 or 14w) so I hope it gets better for all of you that are suffering at the moment too!

@TiaAra sorry you're feeling so terrible. I am exactly the same way, beyond exhausted, dizzy/faint and constantly nauseous. I was told it would go away in the second trimester but unfortunately it just ramped up and I was actually only sick about weeks 13 and 14 with even worse exhaustion. Speaking to friends who have had children already it sounds a lot worse than 'normal' pregnancy tiredness.

Was your B12 tested? I don't think it tends to be in the standard bloods so may have to ask the GP for it specifically. I had mine tested at 17 weeks and it was found to be pretty low (the 'normal' range varies by health board and even within this apparently you can get symptoms). I'm at 20 weeks now and still pretty much bed ridden most days so can't report back but keeping my fingers crossed it's the answer! Hope you get some relief soon.

Currently 14 weeks and I felt sooo tired I actually slept a whole weekend away because I just had nothing! Perfectly normal and has eased a lot now. Can’t comment on sickness/nausea as I’ve not suffered either.

it may be worth getting your b12 checked as I have regular injections due to a deficiency and my exhaustion eased a few days after although i also got to 12 weeks so could be coincidence
