Holiday in Rhodes at 26 weeks?

Hello all. I know this kind of thing gets asked all the time but before I got pregnant we booked a holiday (actually delayed honeymoon) to Rhodes at the end of August. Of course, I got pregnant much quicker than anticipated and will be 26 weeks when we go, 28 weeks on the dot when we return. Saw consultant today and she said no problem as long as I'm aware of the risks and take into consideration what will happen if I need medical help. I'm now in a bit of a panic about the whole thing. With work and other things we can't really get away otherwise unless we cut it down to just a week and go in the next month. I'm a bit gutted as have had dreadful time over last years (haven't we all) and really been looking forward to honeymoon. What would you do: cancel, rearrange and cut down to a week, or throw caution to the wind and go for it?

I'm travelling to Tenerife at 24 weeks pregnant. I'm getting married over there with our families flying out. There is no way I'm not going lol

If your doctors feel like everything is ok with your pregnancy, don't think twice! 😊

I wouldn't go! I am 22 weeks and currently on holiday. I woke up in a pool of blood yesterday and passed a clot the size of my palm shortly after. I'm now in hospital and expected to stay here for at least another 2 days! The language barrier and different way of working makes a stressful situation even worse. If I could turn back the clock, I would not have come on holiday! X

I'm so sorry, I hope you're okay - sending all positive thoughts 💗

Thanks everyone for your thoughts - a very mixed bag! An old colleague now lives in Rhodes and had a baby last year so may reach out to her for advice too. I am being a panic merchant with the worrying but obviously would rather avoid putting myself and baby at risk.

Definitely don’t cancel!! It’ll be brilliant, go and enjoy your holiday! I’ve travelled just before 30 weeks with all my pregnancies, just make sure you’ve got your fit to fly.

I went to Portugal when I was around 20 weeks pregnant with twins. It was perfect. Rhodes will be hotter but as long as you have access to a pool to keep cool in and can escape to the air con when you need them I’m sure it will be fine.

I’d totally go!

I was meant to be in Italy this week, but I’m 31 weeks and would have returned at 32 weeks, so decided against it. However, if I was a few weeks earlier like you, I wouldn’t have thought twice.

Thank you all! This has been reassuring in a lot of ways. Have ages before we need to decide what we're doing but feel far less panicked now 😊

Hey! Did you go in the end and how was it? I’m in an identical predicament with Rhodes at 24 weeks pregnant and same health care concerns! Would be great to hear your update :)

Plenty of women get pregnant in hot countries and are fine!

Spend time in the pool keeping cool and just ensure you stay hydrated. I’d not even think a thought about it. I’m going to Coachella 24 weeks pregnant 😂

Hey! I cancelled in the end because I ended up getting made redundant at 15 weeks (delightful) but got a new job (thank god) which was due to start the week before the holiday. All a bit of a clusterfeck. Anyway, we went the year after with the baby who was 10 months and it was brilliant. But would say if you're close to Rhodes Town you'll probably be fine!

Ahh I’m so sorry to hear that but glad all is okay now! Thank you for coming back to me and so glad you had a lovely time there.

@FineandDandie if it reassures you at all, I am flying to Florida at 27 weeks and back at almost 29 weeks - I told my midwife as I was really worried and she was excited for me to have a bit of sun before the baby arrives! She said good insurance and lots and lots of water for the flight- the biggest risk is a blood clot due to the flight but even then the actual risk itself is still really low.

Go and enjoy your last holiday abroad before the baby x
