Hello,

I don't know if I'm just being anxious and silly here after 2 losses and never getting this far. I have had shooting pains on and off for a couple of weeks. They do occasionally stop me in my tracks but go quickly and mostly noticeable but not painful. My GP has told me it's normal and not to worry. I have had a good few days with out this then bam - back last nigh. This morning my tummy feels swollen and I can't flatten it at all. It's also tender if I prod too much and the shooting sensation are coming and going. I have had no bleeding whatsoever.

Does this sound normal? I have an early scan booked next week but I'm really feeling anxious and quite emotional today (bloody hormones) xx

I think what your experiencing is completely normal so please don’t worry ❤️ I am anxious also so I totally know how you feel. I had 2 chemicals before this and now I’m 6 weeks. I had weird upper twinges like someone was prodding me with a stick in the night and today my tummy feels tender and I’ve had a few little twinges all over. Breathe and count down the days to your early scan 🥰 that’s what I’m doing (trying but getting anxious at any silly little thing!!) xxx

I had loads of shooting pains in early pregnancy. Just randomly and also if I stood up quickly.
It’s called round ligament pain. Maybe Google that and see if it sounds like your symptoms?

I know it’s a really stressful time though, I remember early pregnancy feeling like it lasted forever, it was all I could think about.

Hi @hopingfor23
Do you happen to have PCOS at all? Before I was pregnant I would occasionally have exactly what you describe when a cyst had burst and although I haven't had that since being pregnant, I am only 7 weeks, so there is definitely time for it to act up! When I asked a consultant about it during fertility consultation, he told me that cysts may rupture from time to time, especially if hormones are going wild, but they will not cause any harm to the baby if you're pregnant - it is just quite uncomfortable for the mum while it is happening. xx

The reason I asked this specifically is the bloating/swelling you mention. I used to go from having a flat, toned belly in the morning to genuinely looking 6 months pregnant for several hours at a time. xx

@Hana89 yes I do have pcos so this would makes sense and the sensation definitely resembles cyst pain but stronger and more frequent so I suppose it may be ruptured cysts. I wonder if it will show on my scan next week?

Thank you all for your reassurance xx x

Just to update in case any one else has the same - I had my scan and bean was in the right place measuring perfectly on track at 7+6 with a super strong heart beat. I ovulated from the side my pains were on and have a corpus luteum which explains the pains. Consultant has said it will resolve itself and the pains are normal for this cyst which actually provides the fetus with progesterone and supports the pregnancy xx
