Fat increase pubic area / mons pubis

I am wondering if this is a permanent thing or not. I’m 36 weeks pregnant, 175cm and gone from 62kg to 71kg in my pregnancy. Always had a relatively low body fat and would consider myself pretty active.

However, I have noticed an increase in puffiness in my mons pubis / pubic bone area which isn’t dramatic but definitely much more there than it was before (both visibly and to touch feels more spongy - maybe an increase in fat in the area) and is making me worried I’ll feel insecure in swimwear etc post baby.

Did anyone else have this and did it resolve post pregnancy?

You mean your Beatles bonnet 😁. Yep, totally fine, goes away after. Nothing to stress about.

fat/swelling - just being pregnant. Don’t stress, will go quickly after.

endlesscraziness · 25/05/2022 22:57

It's the only place I got stretch marks! Don't worry it's just standard weight gain

PurpleJam2234 · 25/05/2022 23:09

Haha I have never heard it called ‘Beatles Bonnet’ 🤣🤣

glad to hear it goes away afterwards!

Ah interesting! I haven’t put much weight on anywhere else, I’m mainly just my old self with a massive bump stuck on 🤣

Hopefully everything will level out post baby 🤞

Also a place I got all my stretch marks too!

MuchTooTired · 25/05/2022 23:35

I had this when pregnant with my DTs. It was the start of severe pe. My legs got so swollen I couldn’t sit in the chair I’d sat in without any problems and sprung leaks due to the water retention. Eventually called triage and they got me to come in, the urine test was borderline but I begged them to keep me in (I was desperate for any chance to give birth by then!). Two days later I had a surprise elcs at 36+5.

I don’t say the above to scare you, I thought it was just a bit weird at the time and nearly didn’t bother calling triage. Hopefully it’s just a normal symptom for you like it’s been for others, but thought I’d post my 2p’s worth just in case!

Oh my goodness I thought this was just me 🙈

Beyonce called it a FUPA. Fat Upper Public Area. At least we're in good company!

PurpleJam2234 · 26/05/2022 05:38

Ahh @MuchTooTired that sounds really scary and hope you are ok now!

I’m not worried it’s that, I think it’s been increasing for about 2 months, I think I first noticed it was more puffy on holiday!

@littlefoot20 I haven’t checked fir stretch marks…. I can’t see below my bump anymore 🤣🤣🤣

did the puffiness go away after? I guess the stretch marks are a different kettle of fish!

It might not be fat, could be swollen/inflammation. Mine is defo swollen from the baby leaning on it from the inside. My physio recommended an ice pack on it for 10 mins, which surprisingly did help!

PurpleJam2234 · 26/05/2022 09:01

@Kiopa oh interesting - thanks for the reply! I’m seeing my womens health physio later so will ask her about this, did yours hurt? I’ve not got any discomfort just a bit spongy!

OP posts:
Kiopa · 26/05/2022 09:43

It doesn't hurt all the time but if I press on it close to the bone it does. Also my inner thigh muscles are super tight (and do hurt/feel very stiff when I walk) which the physio said was linked to the pubis because all those muscles are joined together. Your physio should be able to help with exercises and things if that's the problem for you. The good thing if it is swollen is that it should go down after the baby's born!

JemimaTiggywinkle · 26/05/2022 09:45

Don’t worry it’s just puffiness, it will go away post-birth. You’re probably puffy all over (no offence), it’s just more noticeable there than in other areas.

Gunt is a better word.

OP pls ignore this comment
No Gunt is not a better word and refers to something different
Perhaps PP needs to do some research before commenting

PurpleJam2234 · 26/05/2022 12:34

@littlefoot20 haha don’t worry I’m not paying that comment or person any attention. They sound delightful 😂

@JemimaTiggywinkle I hope you are right! 🙏😊

anyway…. A few more weeks and I’ll find out! Worst case scenario there is always liposuction 🤣👍

rainbowplease · 26/05/2022 13:18

I got this with all 4 of mine - my measurements and weight gain have been pretty similar to yours too. Always goes away a few weeks after birth!

Lacedwithgrace · 26/05/2022 13:52

It's very normal! Just one of those lovely suprises no one thinks to warn us about 🙃
It'll go away after birth, gradually too so a few weeks/months but it does go!

It's sort of good you noticed though, always good to spot the changes in case they're anything to worry about

CurryandSnuggle · 26/05/2022 14:30

I got stretch marks there in my first pregnancy! I agree that puffiness and swelling is just pregnancy 😂

sunscreenandsaltwater · 26/05/2022 18:49

I am delightful, thank you.

I can also call areas of my body whatever I want, and have an opinion about whatever words I choose!

I have another opinion: if you get pregnant, you will put weight on in certain parts of your body.

Anyone want to argue with that? Wink

Yes you can call your body parts whatever you want, but it generally causes confusion when calling your fingers your toes 🙄🙄

look up GUNT it's NOT what the OP is describing.

words have meaning for a reason.

sunscreenandsaltwater · 26/05/2022 19:35

Alright shouty caps. Calm down.

Mons pubis is below abdomen. Space in between mobs pubis = abdomen = gunt.

PurpleJam2234 · 26/05/2022 22:03

@sunscreenandsaltwater I am actually talking about the mons pubis which I mentioned in the post, not the space in between.
