Anterior Placenta- How do I know if baby’s ok?

I had my 20 week scan last week where baby was measuring perfectly and moving around a lot. I have an anterior placenta which is why I haven’t felt any movement yet. I was told in some cases women with placentas like mine never feel movement or feel very little. How will I know if baby’s okay without being able to count kicks and movements? I’m not comfortable using a Doppler at home. Is it just a case of being patient and waiting for each midwife appointment for her to check the heartbeat? And so long as my bumps growing assuming everything’s ok? Sorry if it’s a silly question, I’d love to hear from anyone else who has been through the same

I think once you feel baby move more, you'll notice it more if you get me as you'll know what your looking for.
This is my 3rd pregnancy, first time having an anterior placenta, I've felt movement since 16 weeks and now at 20 weeks get proper kicks, but the movements are in a different place to where they were with my other pregnancies. With my first I have videos of seeing my stomach move at 21 weeks which just won't happen this time as kicks are all down and to the sides/top but inside me not on the surface x

@JuniperAndTonic I'm 28 weeks and my partner was able to feel the baby move for the first time this week so yes it could take a little while longer. If it helps we were in bed and I was lying on my side and his hand was on my stomach.

I have anterior placenta, I first felt movement at 18 weeks, I didn't really get a pattern for a while but I was feeling them daily! I used to come home from work and lay down, have a cold drink until I could feel a kick to ease my mind! I'd say from 25 weeks I felt more of a pattern, I was like you at the start thinking I'd always be worried but I feel so much more than I ever thought I would! I'm 36 weeks now and he's so so active I love it !! He likes to test his feet in my ribs 😆

I caved and bought a Doppler. The reassurance was a bit relief and now I feel it move occasionally (20weeks)

@crabcakesalad they're really not recommended. They provide false reassurance at times. You do not know what you're doing and they should only be used by trained medical professionals.

I'm in a related profession and quite used to scanning. My mw friend told me to get one!

Thank you @CraftyGin

Yeah anterior does cushion movements a lot

Overanxiousmummy · 27/05/2022 19:33

I had anterior placenta and was overweight and had a small baby so I had the trifecta of not feeling movements, I felt some and I tracked what I felt so I could reassure myself and I got checked multiple times - they always said they see a lot of women with anterior placenta so better to get checked than not. What I felt were more like flutters than kicks, but when he had hiccups I felt them and saw them and DH felt them so hope for some hiccups!

My placenta has moved at twenty seven weeks which is good news as I find surgery a bit traumatic. My baby is on the thirteenth centile though so we're going back for a growth scan in three weeks.

I’m 23 weeks now and still struggling to deal with the lack of feeling of movement, it’s so frustrating. I just wish I knew he was okay in there. I’m trying to focus on the positives as my bump is getting bigger every day now which must be good. I see the midwife in a couple of weeks so hopefully she can find a heartbeat.

@LittleRobins It is really frustrating but hang in there, hopefully you'll feel something soon. I just started to feel something at 23 weeks but not regularly until 25 weeks and now at 30 weeks he drives me mad at night by having a party while I'm trying to sleep!
