Growth scan accuracy?

I have a raised Bmi so I'm having routine growth scans. Uneventful first pregnancy so far. All check ups have been fine.

At 32 weeks baby was on 55th percentile and weighing estimated 4.7lbs. So she was said to be average when Dr reviewed my scan.

4 weeks later at 36 weeks she's measuring 7.2lbs and on 90th percentile! And apparently just above 95th for Femur length...so it's jumped alot.

Dr has reviewed scan and reassured me she's just a healthy baby but has put quite a bit of weight on in past 4 weeks, Dr said she isn't concerned but at my next scan if she's following this trend they will speak to me about induction of labour or possible c-section. She started talking to me about shoulder dystocia etc.

But then said if she's still on same centile they'll let her go full term.

Maybe I'm hormonal but I've just come away a bit like how accurate are these scans?! They seem all over the place. I feel like I'm going to worry for next 3 weeks now until my next scan to know if we have to intervene or not.

Anyone else had growth scans that have been conflicting? Or birthed a baby where growth scan was completely wrong?!

Not sure what I'm looking for on here, but I guess I just feel a bit confused at what to think.

Hi Op I wouldn't think about it to much. I know that's a silly thing to say but with my first I was told my baby was very underweight and what not. Baby came overdue at 42 weeks and was 7lbs9.
My son was measuring small they told me he had grown in the weeks before my last scan and he was born at 6lb2.
I was told the further you are along, it's actually harder to get accurate results as there's not much room for baby to stretch for them to get accurate measurements.

I think (haven't looked it up, but dr google will have info) that there is something like 15% margin of error. Doesn't sound like a lot, but if they're saying perhaps 9lb baby, could be well over a lb difference. I have a friend who was encouraged to have a CS as her son was measuring large. She did - he was 7lb6 or something.

My baby was measuring 50th percentile at all growth scans and was 97th when he was born. On the flip side, my friends was measuring 99th on growth scans and was under 50th when born

I had a baby this morning; he was 'supposed' to weigh 7lb6oz but he was actually 8lb8oz!

My growth scans were pretty accurate actually. I had extra checks due to high BMI.

First was 8lb 4 at 37 weeks, second 9lb 3 at 39w 1d. Second was an induction as was suspected 10/11 pounds if went to term. I was so strong headed I wouldn’t be induced then jumped at the chance. No issues and not as stressful as I’d imagined.

@itssquidstella congratulations ❤️

My baby was measuring 4lbs 12oz on a growth scan on the Friday. I was induced and when my baby was born the following Tuesday, they weighed 4lbs 15oz so from my experience, accurate but they do have around a 15% margin for error as a PP has posted.

Don't worry too much about it and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!

I was told my baby would be 9-10lbs.

He was under seven... but I did have polyhydromnious. Not sure if relevant but suspect it was.

What birth weight did they end up at? My trust seems dead set on induction or c section if measuring big 😩

They said first one would be around 11lb give it take a lb and he was 10.2lb. Second one was scanned almost 7lb and came out exactly 7lb. 😊
