Morning all, I'm currently holidaying in the UAE and I'm 23 weeks pregnant. Whilst on the beach on Saturday I believe I have been attacked by mosquitos. I've a few on my feet which look "normal" but I've come up with massive red circles and swelling on my arms with blister like circles inside. They're really itchy. I fly back tonight so hoping to get an emergency appointment with my GP but has this happened to anybody else before? Or might somebody know what it is?
I've placed a cold flannel on top of the swelling but even after taking off, it's really hot to touch. Thanks

I've had reactions like that before. Mark the edges of it to see if it is spreading at all.

can you use antihistamine cream in pregnancy?

TBH though, seeking proper medical advice is best.

It looks like those bites from what I believe are called tiger mosquitoes. Their bites really caused me a lot of swelling and irritation. But I’m no medical expert, you’re pregnant, please seek real life medical advice.

Pressed post too soon.

What did yours turn out to be and how did you make it go away?
Too afraid to use anything until I seek advice back in the UK. Rang my GP surgery who I said I should be able to see them tomorrow once I land.

Just looks like a bad bite which could benefit from taking some Piriton and using antihistamine cream. If see someone if it doesn't improve after doing that.

My son reacts like that to bites in the UK. Dr said it was fine. Do you feel fine in yourself otherwise?

Yes I feel fine otherwise. Just very itchy.
Shut myself in the hotel room whilst my husband has gone for another sunbathing session!☹️

antihistamine cream and cold flannels really. Plus time!

mine were just bad bite reactions. I've also had a couple of infections from a bites/stings and they've generally looked different - the worse was a bee sting that had red tracking lines spreading up my Leg. They also hurt a lot more than a general bite reaction.

Could you go to a pharmacy? They are generally very good and can give you some steroid cream and direct you to a Dr if they feel it necessary.

Oh okay. I've not taken any antihistamine because I wanted to wait to get back to see my doctor since I am 23 weeks pregnant.
I've just been doing the cold flannels!

I went 2 days ago but the pharmacist suggested a hydrocortisone cream- something the nhs website says that you should consult a doctor about first before using if pregnant!

I always react to bites like that, as does my DS.

Antihistamines help. You could try a topical AH cream like anthisan which doesn't have steroids in it.
