ELCS Stories

I'm 38 weeks and booked for a CS next week due to breech DC. I'm nervous. First pregnancy, I was hoping for any stories or tips to prepare before and deal with post surgery! How long until you were up and able to do things on your own? Timeline of back to normal?

I'm in the US if that changes anything! And yes that does mean back to work at 8weeks PP, paying $8000 after insurance and not being able to find any formula 😫

My DS was breech, I was nervous as hell about my ELCS but honestly it was an absolutely wonderful experience- calm, relaxed and supported.

I healed well, was back driving after 2.5 weeks (i drive an automatic).
Best advice I can give is plenty of rest and staying in bed with your baby, keep on top of painkillers and enjoy your new bub!

holy shit.

don’t know what to say. It all depends whether everything is straightforward, any slight issue and your timeline is very tight to be back at work.

agree with pp. if you only have 8 weeks, rest, rest and more rest.

i didn’t like the elcs at all. Felt awful for ages after. 8 weeks is madness after abdominal surgery and a baby!

I had an ELCS 12 days ago and have been up and and moving pretty much normally since day 3. First two days I had to be quite slow and careful but then had a significant improvement. I was taking paracetamol and ibuprofen on schedule (every 6 hours each spaced so that there was 3 hours between doses) for just over a week until I started forgetting some or slept past the time to take them, and I haven’t had any pain at any point. For the past two days I’ve only taken them when I wake up and when I go to bed and that’s really only just in case.

I feel fine physically and the only reason I’m still avoiding some housework is because it was advised (and because I can’t get off the sofa due to how demanding newborns are)

Reading birth stories on my due date groups now that all the babies are arriving I feel I’ve had it easy! It certainly seems like recovery from tearing or episiotomy is way worse than what I’ve had.

My milk came in 3 days and I’ve been breastfeeding the whole time. So no delay there which is something you’re warned about with c-sections. If your work support pumping then that’s an option if you wanted to, there’s no reason why a c-section should interfere with breastfeeding.
